Principal's Report

Kylie O'Donnell

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope each and every one of you enjoyed a happy and holy Easter. Thank you to those of you who could join us for the reenactment of Jesus’ last days on earth, the children really captured the roller coaster of emotions Jesus and his earlier followers must have experienced. As I watched with pride, I couldn’t help but notice the parallels the Easter Story has to our own lives.

Our beautiful kindergarten students captured the joy and celebration of Palm Sunday, reminding us of the fleeting nature of success and how fragile love and truth can be in our world. Year three and four demonstrated Jesus as truly human in their depiction of the washing of the feet, and truly divine as he predicted what was to come in the breaking of the bread at the last supper. Year five and six showed us the anguish of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, as like many of us, Jesus appealed to God asking why me? Eventually He succumbed to God’s great plan exclaiming ‘Let your will be done’.  In His journey to the Cross, Jesus reminds of the endless possibilities we have to forgive and grow. Witnessing the great reverence in which our senior students portrayed the crucifixion, we experienced the flaws in humanity and Christ’s ultimate sacrifice.

Yesterday we returned after the break rested and with renewed enthusiasm. Even the weather could not dampen the hope and promise of a better tomorrow presented by our Year one and two students as they revealed the mystery of the empty tomb and the Risen Christ. I pray that you also found a renewed sense of God’s mercy and love this Easter.

Staff Development Days

Please be reminded the students are finishing up for the term on Thursday 11 April. On Friday the teachers will be engaging in professional learning on the science of reading and the research prompting the latest curriculum reforms. I also remind you the students will be returning for Term 2 on Tuesday 30 April as Monday the teachers will be off site participating in a day of faith formation centred around prayer.

Staffing

Next term there will be a number of staffing changes. I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Mrs Giannikos as she prepares for baby number two. Mrs Giannikos will be with us until week 8 next term. We are also saying farewell to Mrs Murdaca after many years of dedicated service to St Margaret Mary’s. Mrs Murdaca has decided to leave her position as learning support officer. I know Mrs Murdaca will be sadly missed by the teachers, students and wider school community and we wish her all the best.
