DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

At our Formal Assembly today we celebrated the many achievements of our students. What made an impression on me was the sheer variety of items that students shared. It demonstrates very clearly that there is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach at our school and that there are many, many ways for students to engage with learning, community and interests while at St Mary MacKillop College. 

Student presentations included: the Year 9 Camp Report, the Sheep Program (where our students are looking after Merino Wethers) and the Youth Mentor Program where our Year 9s are working with older members of the Swan Hill community. We also included a Guardian Round-up, looking at photos of our students who have been featured in the Guardian. This might have been for Sports, Debutante Balls, Youth Representation, or Awards. Each of our Student Leadership Committees reported about the activities they have undertaken this term which included a Scavenger Hunt, Lunchtime games in the Red Court, painting and craft activities, fundraising for Caritas and a community clean up along Woorinen Road. Moving into Term 2 our Student Committees will be increasing the opportunities for students to get involved and I do hope that they do. 

The end of term is a perfect opportunity to acknowledge the way our students have contributed to our community, applied themselves to study, or lived out our school values. Many students were awarded Student Commendations in a range of categories and should be congratulated for their efforts.
