PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MRS MICHELLE HAEUSLER - PRINCIPAL

As we come to the end of Term 1, I would like to acknowledge the great work of our students and staff. Although it has been a short term, it has been a very productive one.

Throughout the Lenten season, I hope that you consider what it is to be compassionate, to look beyond yourselves and to dig deep to support our Caritas fundraising. Thank you also to the staff and students for their organisation and participation in the presentation of Stations of the Cross on Thursday afternoon.

Last week was Harmony Week. Harmony Week is a celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together people from all different backgrounds. It is about inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone. Thank you to the staff and students that organised activities for Harmony Week.

Our Year 9 and 12 students were fortunate to attend camp and Retreat during the last two weeks of term. From all reports, everyone had a fabulous experience as they spent time together and challenged themselves in all sorts of ways. Although the Year 7 Camp was postponed, they will have this to look forward to at the end of Term 2.

Congratulations to the many students that were recognised at House assemblies this week for 100% or 99% attendance in Term 1.

I also want to congratulate students who achieved outstanding results in their Unit 3 & 4 studies in 2023. At our school, we allow students to accelerate and complete subjects usually studied in Year 12 in Year 11. Last year the following students achieved a result of 40 or more out of 50 for a subject. Only 9% of students in each subject will achieve a study score of 40 or more. Today I congratulate:

Sofie Mazzotta - 41 in VET Sport & Recreation

Tess Meney - 41 in Health & Human Development and 42 in General Mathematics

Otto Conlan - 42 in VET Sport & Recreation

Payton Cutrell - 44 in VET Sport & Recreation

Molly McGowan - 44 in VET Sport & Recreation

Kate Whorwood - 44 in VET Sport & Recreation

Only 2% of students in each subject will achieve a study score of 45 or more. Today I congratulate:

Will Gilchrist - 45 in VET Sport & Recreation

Gabby Atkinson - 47 in VET Sport & Recreation

Wil Hawkins - 49 in VET Sport & Recreation

Will Gilchrist - 50 in General Mathematics = a perfect score.

Well done to all of these students and all of the students who received commendation certificates at our assembly today, as well as all other students who work hard to achieve their very best.

During these holidays, it is appropriate for us to take time to reflect on what Easter means, and to think about the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. The Easter story conveys a great sense of hope and joy, but it also indicates that the early Christian community had a lot of work to do, part of which would involve reaching out to people and places yet unknown. In some ways, this has not changed, we as Christians can, at times, neglect others in our community and not reach out to others. As we celebrate Easter over the holidays, I would ask that all members of our community, as they attend Easter services, truly reflect on how Jesus impacts on our life and how we, as people of compassion, impact on the lives of others.
