Classic Book Cover
Term One rushed by quicker than anticipated, despite the stop-start nature of the term, students worked quickly and creatively to present their classic book cover designs. The task required students to choose a classic novel and redesign the cover to make it appear modern for a contemporary audience.
Students began by researching the information about the book they were redesigning and visually exploring the key themes, plot and characters. Students kept an open mind, suspended their judgment and were open to new possibilities. Students were only permitted to use manual methods for this task, which encouraged experimentation with collage, illustration, and mixed media.

Book Series Design
The second task required students to redesign a Book series so that it was different from the original. The series could consist of two books in the group and maybe a collection of titles from the same author or are related by genre such as horror, non-fiction, and children’s picture books. The series could be linked by one or more of the techniques including Author type treatment / Title type treatment, Media or method style, Layout (grid), and/or Colour palette. It was pleasing to see students engaged and experimenting with digital media and methods for this task.
