Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

NUMERACY LEADERSHIP TEAM 2026

A key component of our whole school improvement is that we have designated leadership teams in Literacy, Numeracy and Well-Being.

This week the focus is on our Numeracy Leadership team and by extension our Numeracy Community of practice team.

Jarryd Lewis is a very well credentialed teacher. Jarryd has taught at Warrnambool Primary School for several years now after working locally at Cobden Primary School. Jarryd is one of the driving forces behind the development of our numeracy program at Warrnambool Primary School.

Patrick Kluver has been a key component of Warrnambool Primary School’s push toward low variance and consistency of documentation and classroom delivery in Numeracy in the past two years. He has been an excellent acquisition to our staff across all areas of the school but he is finding a strength in Numeracy co-ordination.

April Lee Sandri has worked for several years at Warrnambool Primary School across various year levels. April is remembered across the school for her artistic prowess and she can add her Numeracy leadership to list of strengths.

Each week Jarryd, Patrick and April meet to discuss our whole school Numeracy focuses for the coming weeks. They also drive Professional Learning at staff meetings to ensure that we have low variance and consistency in Numeracy across the school.

At present Jarryd, Patrick and April are working as part of a Community of Practice focusing on best practice in Numeracy instruction across the Wimmera Southwest Area.

We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated and skilled Numeracy team at Warrnambool Primary School. Our students are the beneficiaries.

FOUNDATION INFORMATION NIGHT/ WHOLE SCHOOL OPEN NIGHT

TUESDAY 12TH MAY 2025 5pm - 7pm

We would love to see as many prospective parents as possible at our Foundation Information Night on Tuesday 12th May 2025 at 5pm.

If you already have children at the school or if you know someone who has a child about to commence Foundation in 2027 please come along and encourage them to also.

We will share information about the first year of school, a day in the life of a Foundation child at Warrnambool Primary School and outline the great programs we offer.

We are also holding our whole School Open Night on the same evening. The students love seeing their parents at school so it would be great to see many parents, grandparents and friends as possible.

Lucky door prizes are available and there will be a free sausage sizzle.

LOCAL KINDER VISITS

We have started our kindergarten visit program, with City and Central Kinders visiting this week. The program will continue over the coming weeks as we welcome more local groups to our school as part of our 2027 Foundation enrolment transition program.

It has been wonderful to see the children confidently exploring their future learning environment as they joined us for story time, colouring activities, play on the equipment, and a shared morning tea. These visits provide a valuable opportunity for children to become familiar with the school setting, build excitement, and begin forming connections ahead of starting school.

MOTHER’S DAY STALL

Thank you to our wonderful Warrnambool Primary Parents Association (WPPA) volunteers for organising and supervising the Mother’s Day stall this week.

These activities and fundraisers for our school cannot proceed without the hard work and dedication of our WPPA volunteers.

We thank them very much and hope all of our Mothers/Special People who receive gifts this Sunday enjoy their day with their families.

DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY

Well Done to all of our students who represented Warrnambool Primary School at the District Cross Country this week. We were proud of everyone’s effort and for representing our school so well. Congratulations to the following students who have progressed to the Division Cross Country next week. Chloe Campling, Bowie Lynch, Maisy Murphy, Montana Redmond, Layla Rodda and Sylvie Van Rooy.

STUDENT COLLECTION END OF DAY

Effective communication between parents and schools plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students. One key aspect of this is the daily communication of after-school collection arrangements. Whether a child is being picked up by a parent, relative, friend, or attending an after-school program, it is essential that the school is informed promptly and accurately.

Children thrive in environments where routines are clear and predictable. When collection plans are changed without notifying the school, students may feel anxious or confused at the end of the day. This uncertainty can also lead to delays and increased stress for teachers and administrative staff who must track down updated information.

Daily communication of collection arrangements is a simple yet essential practice that contributes significantly to student safety, emotional well-being, and the effective functioning of school routines. Schools and parents share a joint responsibility in this process, and consistent communication strengthens trust and collaboration between families and school.

INDUSTRIAL ACTION UPDATE – Half Day Stop Work POSTPONED

The Australian Education Union has advised that industrial action will continue, despite negotiations with the Victorian State Government continuing to be positive. Discussions are progressing regarding funding for government schools and the current enterprise bargaining agreement.

As part of this action, AEU members have been directed to implement a series of work bans. This excludes a half-day stop work on Tuesday 12th May 2026 as it has been postponed. If the impasse continues, teachers have been instructed to provide half-yearly student reports without written comments.

Unfortunately, some industrial actions are likely to impact both students and families should an agreement not be reached. We will continue to keep our community informed and appreciate your understanding during this time

Have a great weekend.
