Eyes on VET

Welcome to the first edition of Eyes on VET for Term 2 and a bumper edition!
I hope students and families enjoyed the recent school holidays and students have already settled in to Term 2.
Information sessions on senior school pathway options have commenced, and I imagine our Year 10 students are starting to get excited as they learn about all the choices available to them. If you are interested in finding out more about the VET Connect program, it is recommended that you attend the upcoming information night, as per details below:
Please register your attendance on this link: https://www.trybooking.com/DLXDP
Applications for the VET Connect program will open on
Wednesday, 13 May and close on Monday, 25 May at 3pm.
This week, during the Year 10 Assembly, I spoke to students about the Work Experience program during Leap Week in Week 9, Term 4. Work Experience Information Packages can be collected from the VET Office. Students participating in the work experience program will need to submit a Year 10 Work Experience Placement Information Form to the VET Office by Friday, 19 June, Week 9 this term.
Year 11 and 12 VET Connect students have some extra time off during the exam-free period in Weeks 6 and 7 if they are up to date with all their work, otherwise they will be notified by their teachers about coming in during this time for catch-up. During this period, VET Connect and P2C students will still be required to attend their workplace and external course on Thursday and/or Friday… it’s ‘business as usual’ on these days. I encourage students to ensure they are up to date with all their work so that they can enjoy some extra time off.
Workplace Learning Logbooks and Skills Journals will be due for submission to the VET Office on Monday, 8 June (Week 8), for me to mark and report on in Semester 1 Reports.
I wish everyone a very productive and enjoyable Term 2.

Snapshots around the workplace…
…Aniela Owczarek (Year 12 ATAR) on completing a Certificate III in Retail through a School Based Traineeship at McDonald’s.
…to Year 12 Hospitality students on the outstanding success of their Soup Service at the Green Apple Café this past week! Our students brought enthusiasm, teamwork, and professionalism to this special event, preparing and serving a delicious range of homemade soup, perfectly timed for the cooler weather. Open to staff and fellow Year 12 students, the initiative provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their practical skills in a real-world setting.
It was fantastic to see such strong support from our school community. Thank you to everyone who visited, purchased soup, and encouraged our students. The option for lunchtime pick-up or convenient Period 4 delivery added an extra level of service that reflects the students’ thoughtful planning and commitment.
We are incredibly proud of the way our Hospitality students conducted themselves throughout the service function. They demonstrated not only their growing culinary and service skills, but also initiative, organisation, and a genuine passion for hospitality.
Well done to all involved, including their amazing Hospitality trainers, Samantha Papalia and Aisling Marshall, on running such a successful function.
Please keep your ‘Eyes on VET’ in the next Parent Update.
Best wishes
Melinda Kennington, VET Manager
