Drama & Dance

Dance

We are excited to announce that a Dance Club will start on Friday during recess in the Performing Arts Centre (PAC) and will meet weekly. This club is open to all dance enthusiasts and is a great opportunity for students to move, connect, and enjoy dance in a relaxed setting.

Our Year 8 and 9 Dance students are making excellent progress as they learn teacher-led choreography and create their own routines in both Hip Hop and Jazz. Their hard work and creativity will culminate in a Dance Showcase at the end of the term, where families will be invited to see what they have been developing in class.

Drama

  • Year 7 students are beginning an exciting unit exploring circus and mime. In Week 5, students will participate in workshops led by professional performers from Yip Yip Circus. Students are reminded to bring their sports uniform for these practical sessions.
  • Year 8 students are focusing on the design elements of drama, with an emphasis on Costume, Set, and Sound Design. Later this term, students will design their own costumes, sets, and soundscapes for a scene from Lockie Leonard.
  • Year 9 students are currently engaged in specialist workshops with Dr Andrew Kocsis from Murdoch University, supporting their understanding of Commedia dell ’Arte performance techniques.
  • Year 10 students are preparing monologues in readiness for upcoming exams. Following this, they will begin working on scenes to be showcased later in the term.
  • Year 12 students are in a crucial phase of preparation for their Externally Set Task and examinations. The Practical Exam will take place on campus on Saturday, 16 May. To support their preparation, Nichola Renton from The Actors’ Workshop will be working with students during class on Thursday, focusing on monologue development.

Senior School Production

A Voice in the Dark: A Salem Story

Day One of Term 1 was the beginning of the 10-week rehearsal period for  A Voice in the Dark: A Salem Story.  The production was shaped through close analysis of the Salem Witch Trials, ensemble work, and historical reflection. As the cast explored mass hysteria, public opinion, and gender roles in 1600s Salem, rehearsals focused on how fear escalates and how voices are silenced under pressure. This play was chosen to extend learning for the Year 12 Drama students by offering an alternative interpretation of real events. The rehearsal process modelled how reinterpretation emerges, supporting ATAR Unit 3 studies by showing history reimagined through new perspectives, and to give real-world experiences for the cast and crew involved.

The Senior School production, A Voice in the Dark: A Salem Story, was presented last Friday night and was very well received by the audience. I am very proud of the work the Year 10-12 students have put into this production. Congratulations to all students involved for their commitment, professionalism, and outstanding performances.
