Commemorating ANZAC Day

Last week, our College community gathered in prayer and reflection to commemorate ANZAC Day. This significant occasion invites us to pause and remember the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who have served our country, particularly those who gave their lives in times of war and conflict.

Within our Liturgy, we honoured this legacy through prayer, scripture and silence. We heard the stories of Nurse Mae Witton and General John Monash, where students were invited to consider the human stories behind the history, recognising the dignity of each person and the cost of conflict.

For our students, this commemoration is an important opportunity for learning. It encourages them to develop a sense of gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy today, while also developing empathy and a deeper awareness of the realities of war. In the context of our Catholic tradition, it also calls us to reflect on our responsibility to be people of peace, seeking justice, reconciliation and compassion in our world.

ANZAC Day reminds us that remembrance is not only about looking back, but also about shaping who we are today. As a school community, we are proud of the reverence and respect shown by our students during the Liturgy, and we hope that this experience continues to inspire them to live with courage, serve others generously, and contribute to a more peaceful and just world.
