Work Experience – Term 2, Week 9
All Year 10 students are encouraged to take part in Work Experience, which will take place in Week 9 of Term 2 (commencing 15 June 2026).
Work Experience is a valuable opportunity for students to explore different careers, gain real-world skills, and build confidence in the workplace. We strongly encourage all students to get involved and make the most of this experience.
Students will be bringing home an information pack next week, which will outline the process and requirements for organising their placement.
It is important to note that many employers require significant notice to take on a work experience student so they can plan appropriate tasks and ensure a meaningful experience. We strongly recommend that students begin reaching out to potential employers and organising their placement as soon as possible
Scholarships AKA Free Money
Scholarships are a fantastic way to support your future study, and there are thousands of scholarships available across Australia each year, for both university students and apprentices/trainees. These range from small local community scholarships to larger national awards, and many go unclaimed simply because students don’t apply.
What do scholarship panels look for?
- Commitment to study or career goals
- Community involvement and contribution
- Leadership and initiative
- Effort and attitude (not just top marks)
- Financial need (for some scholarships)
How can students boost their applications?
- Get involved in volunteering (community groups, sport, aged care, events)
- Take on leadership roles at school or in the community
- Participate in sport, clubs, or extracurricular activities
- Complete work experience or part-time work
- Keep a record of achievements, awards, and experiences
Where can you find scholarships?
- School newsletters and the Careers Adviser
- Local organisations (e.g. Country Education Foundation, community banks, councils)
- University websites (each uni has its own scholarship page)
- Scholarship search websites such as Good Universities Guide, StudyAssist, and Scholarships Australia
Top Tip: Apply for as many scholarships as you can—you don’t need to be a top academic student to be successful. Many scholarships are based on effort, community involvement, and future goals.
If you’re planning to study or start an apprenticeship, now is the time to start looking and preparing your applications.
