Teaching and Learning

Celebration of Learning

The Celebration of Learning is tomorrow, Wednesday, September 13th from 5-7 pm.  We welcome all of our families to come along to this special event to share in your child’s learning journey.

All learning spaces will be open for you to visit with your children as they lead you through their celebrations thus far and goals for future learning.

Tracey and her team will also have the canteen open and the BBQ firing for those families that wish to grab a drink or a bite to eat.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there to enjoy this special occasion.

Swimming

The swimming program is coming up next term for all year levels. Please see the dates below for each year level’s scheduled swimming program.  This event will appear in Compass soon with all the details and will require parent consent.

The cost of swimming this year will be approximately $20, which covers the cost of the bus travel. The actual swimming and water safety lesson costs are covered by funding received from DET.

Please speak to your child’s classroom teacher should you have any queries regarding swimming.

Victorian State School Spectacular (VSSS)

Congratulations to all our students who participated in the VSSS on Saturday at John Cain Arena in the mass dance performance…you were amazing! A huge thanks goes to Mrs Morgan who put in a tremendous amount of time, dedication and love, enabling our students to participate in this wonderful experience that they will treasure forever. Thanks also to Mrs Noyce and Mr Morgan who attended rehearsals on Thursday and Friday respectively.  In addition to Saturday’s performance, there were two big days of dress rehearsal over Thursday and Friday, so the students were certainly ready to rock by Saturday for their two performances. Well done again to all involved!

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Premiers’ Reading Challenge closed last Friday, September 8th. Congratulations to all students who participated in and completed the Premiers’ Reading Challenge!  We had 28 students across the two campuses who completed the challenge this year from Prep through to Grade 6.

We will formally acknowledge and celebrate these students’ achievement at an assembly next term, once we receive the certificates in the mail.

Well done once again to all these students and thank you to parents and carers of these students for all your support to enable your child to participate.

Keep up the reading during the holidays!

Author Study

We will return to school next term with the excitement of another Author Study to catpure the love of reading! The author in focus will be popular Australian author Graeme Base, famous for his many artistic and creative picture story books. Author Studies are an excellent opportunity to build a love of literacy. They forge a greater connection for students and expand reading opportunities. We look forward to sharing all the fun from throughout the week with you.

Bulldogs Read Program

Over the weekend, several of our participants took the opportunity of free tickets to attend the Bulldogs AFLW match against Hawthorn, here in Ballarat at Mars Stadium.  From all reports, students had a fabulous day and despite the result for the Bulldogs, it was once again a great opportunity for our students and their families.

Henry O’s family had the extra excitement of being asked to be part of the guard of honour on the field as the players ran out of the race and onto the ground-what a fantastic experience!

Our Bulldogs Read participants also had an opportunity yesterday to participate in a footy clinic on the school oval with the Bulldogs Ballarat staff.

The clinic was a fun and inclusive skills session, and the students were also lucky enough to bag some free giveaways!

Our Bulldogs Read participants are nearing the end of their time in this program and will finish off their experience with a Grand Finale event on October 27th.  More details about the day’s activities will be sent via Compass to parents early next term.

Please see the flyer below for holiday activities that the Bulldogs Ballarat team have on offer for any interested students.  All events are free, but they do require registration prior to participating.

Managing Devices over the holidays

Dealing with iPads during the school holidays can be a bit of a puzzle. On one hand, they're great for learning, but sometimes  we want our kids to enjoy some screen-free fun. It's a balancing act that can get tricky. Did you know you could use Jamf to help you manage iPads at home.

Please see the video from Jamf on how you can set up restrictions and time limits to suit your families needs.
