FOOTY COLOURS DAY proudly supporting the Mphatso Children’s Foundation

Students are invited to come dressed in their favourite team colours on the last day of term, Friday 15th September. This will be part of an epic fundraiser on the day, raising funds to support the Mphatso Children’s Foundation.

WHICH TEAM WILL WIN THE BUNINYONG CUP?

We will finally be able to answer the question that is on everyone’s lips… which team will win and have the glory of being named the most popular AFL club at Buninyong PS?

In 2022 GEELONG CATS took out the crown (of the Buninyong Cup and the AFL premiership)… given the turn around of their fortunes, can they be beaten in 2023? Will the Magpies, or maybe the Lions, have more support from the students at Buninyong this year? Only time will tell…

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

Start collecting coins and bring along a donation on the day! We encourage students to collect as many 5c coins as they can, as 5c coins have become synonymous with Mphatso. This is how much it costs to provide a bowl of porridge to a student each day at school. For many of the children, this is the only food they will have for the day.

Students may bring along as many coins as they wish, and coins can be of any denomination.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY?

Each AFL team will have a container, clearly labelled with their name and club colours. Each class will have the opportunity to come along and help kick some goals for their team by depositing coins into their favourite team’s jar.

The team at the end of the day with the most donations (in volumenot value) will be crowned the winner!

For those who don’t follow the AFL… don’t worry! We will have a jar for you to add to. Will that be the ultimate upset, with all AFL teams being beaten for the Buninyong Cup by other sports?

All donations will then be forwarded to the Mphatso Children’s Foundation on behalf of our school.

As many of you may know, we have had an ongoing relationship with Mphatso Children’s Foundation in Malawi for many years. A former parent of Buninyong PS, Robyn Casey, established the Mphatso Children’s Foundation back in 2004. Their mission is to FEED THE CHILDREN, GROW THE COMMUNITY & IMPACT THE FUTURE.

We thank you for your ongoing support.

School Uniform & Hats

Please take the opportunity over the holiday break to audit and top up uniform supplies in preparation for the warmer weather that's hopefully on its way for term four.

All uniform items must comply with our school uniform guidelines.

In particular:

  • Shorts being plain black (no logos) and of an appropriate length for school (no exercise / bike shorts / running shorts)
  • Black shoes (runners, school shoes or boots)
  • Socks plain black or white only
  • School hats (broad or bucket) only
  • Please make sure all pieces of uniform are clearly named. Named items will be returned to students when found.

This includes school hats, as they are again compulsory and must be worn by all students in term four, in line with our sunsmart policy.

Please take the time during the holidays to dig out your child’s hat, make sure it is named and pop it in their bag for the first day back to school.

Remember: No hat – No outside play!

Our uniform shop is fully stocked for over the counter and online sales. You can order and pay via QKR and your child can collect from the school office. If you call through to the office, delivery to their classroom can also be arranged.

Your help in ensuring that all students are in correct uniform is appreciated. Please feel free to contact the school if you have any further questions.

Asthma

During grass pollen season between October and December, there is an increased risk of seasonal asthma, hay fever and epidemic thunderstorm asthma.

Thunderstorm asthma is asthma that is triggered by a particular type of thunderstorm when there are high amounts of grass pollen in the air. It can result in people wheezing, feeling short of breath, and tight in the chest with coughing. This can be sudden, serious, and even life threatening. Those at risk of thunderstorm asthma are those who have asthma (or have had asthma in the past, or undiagnosed asthma) and/or have hay fever.

If your child has been diagnosed with asthma it is important that you have your child’s asthma plan updated annually and provide a copy to the school office. Please also provide a supply of Ventolin or other asthma reliever and spacer to the school office. These will be stored at the office so they can be easily accessed should your child require it throughout the day.

Should you have any questions, please contact the office.

Legacy - Support Our Veteran’s Families

Buy a badge or other merchandise and help us support the families of our veterans. We will be selling these throughout the week so please send in some money with your child to buy some of the following items. Prices start from $2 for a badge and go through to $5 for a keyring.

The Legacy Week appeal has been running since the 1940’s and is a time for all Australians to show their support for the widows and children whose loved ones have served our country. The Legacy badge is a special emblem of support for our veterans’ families, symbolising our nation’s greatest values of mateship, compassion and fairness. Legacy badges may be little but the funds they raise make a big impact in the lives of our veterans’ families. Thank you for your support.
