Hollows House News

Welcome Back!

Dear Hollows House Community,

Welcome back to another exciting year at Hampton Park Secondary College! We are thrilled to see the positive energy that has filled our classrooms and other school spaces, especially with the new Year 7 students settling in so seamlessly. Their enthusiasm for learning and participation in various Startup program activities has been truly inspiring.

The Startup program has been a hit, with students engaging in virtual reality experiences, writing aspirational letters to their future selves, and embracing digital learning. Our guest speaker, Eric Agyeman, shared a powerful message about the impact of words and how failures can pave the way for success. It's fantastic to witness such early encouragement and motivation in our young learners. A special congratulations to our Year 7 students for their impressive win in the annual peer support mentor group sports competition. Well done, Year 7 – a fantastic start to the year!

As we welcome back our Year 8 and 9 students in the Enhance program, we wish them success as they gain more choice and voice in their subjects. Year 10 students, this marks the beginning of your senior school journey, and we are optimistic about the achievements that await you. Remember, support is always available as you navigate this new chapter.

To our Year 11 students, 2024 is your chance to shine as you embark on unit 1 VCE or VM subjects. For Year 12 students, this is your final year – make it count! We are proud to see you wearing your new Year 12 jackets with pride, representing the school and your cohort positively.

The Hollows House team is here for you throughout the year, ready to assist and support you in achieving great things. Speaking of which, the College Swimming Sports are just around the corner. We encourage all students to wear your blue with pride and actively participate in the events. It's sure to be a day of fun, excitement, and camaraderie.

Well done to all students who have received values nominations across this first week: Respect: Learning: 145

Working Together: 15

Community: 5

Leadership: 30

Let's make 2024 a year of growth, achievements, and memorable experiences.

Here's to a fantastic school year ahead!

Introducing Miss Ho: Congratulations on becoming our new Hollows House Senior Student Learning Leader! Fun Facts about Miss Ho:

Favourite Subject: As a student, my favourite subject was Legal Studies. As a teacher, I love teaching VCE-VM Literacy.

Favourite Food: Pasta, literally any type!

Favourite Style of music: R&B and Rap.

Hobbies: I love Reformer Pilates and going on walks after work. I also babysit my nieces a lot, and love spending time with them.

Movie you would recommend: Imitation Game

Quote you live by: “You never know what you can do until you try”

Who do you look up to and why? Other than all of the amazing teachers here at HP, my main role model would definitely be my mum. She came to Australia after the Cambodian genocide, with basically nothing and no prior knowledge of English. She worked tirelessly for decades, looking after and caring for 2 children and has never once complained or asked for help. She is the strongest woman I know.

Why did you want to become a Student Learning Leader in our school? Supporting students beyond the classroom is something I strive to do. I think back to the teachers that supported me when I was in high school, and I endeavour to be that teacher for our students at HP.

What excites you the most about being in Hollows House? Working with a great team that is passionate about supporting students to reach their potential. I could not be blessed with a better team to work with!

What is a piece of advice you would give to students? Although school can be stressful with the amount of work you have to complete and deadlines you have to reach, try to take every opportunity to have fun and make memories that stick with you for a lifetime.

Introducing you Hollows Student House Leader, Montanna McGuiness:

Favourite Subject: My favourite subject is Health Services Assistant I appreciate this class because it allows me to learn more about the kind of career I want to pursue in the future.

Favourite food: My favourite foods are spaghetti Bolognese, butter chicken, and Irish stew. My dad makes the best butter chicken and spaghetti Bolognese, so that's why I appreciate those meals so much. Irish stew is one of my favourite traditional foods.

Favourite style of Music: My favourite musical genres are R&B and 2000–2010 music. I think this is primarily because I grew up listening to this genre and have stuck with it.

Hobbies: Baking and playing volleyball are my hobbies. Since 2020, I have played volleyball outside of school, which has kept me busy. I also enjoy baking and cooking because I like to prepare meals and share them with my friends.

Movies I would recommend would have to be Scream 1996 none of those other scream movies I only prefer the first one

A quote I live by "So be careful to live your life wisely, not foolishly." Ephesians 5:15

Who do you look up to and why? I look up to my grandmother and father because they have taught me so much in this world and the reason for who I have become today

Why did you want to become a House leader in our school? The reason why I became a house leader is because I wanted to help people by making a change in our school

What excites you the most about being in Hollows House? Being in Hollow House thrills me since we are the most interesting individuals, and I'm lucky because blue is my favourite colour GO HOLLOWS

What is a piece of advice you would give to students? I would advise students to enjoy their time in year 7 and year 8, as these years are similar to elementary school. Once they reach year 9, that's when you should start preparing for the future. Consider what kind of job you want to have or who you want to be, and begin studying. Let me tell you that once you reach year 11, things get difficult. I wish I had started taking school seriously in year 9. If you're in year 9 or 10 right now, please study and take school seriously, and treat school seriously. You may be thinking, "Oh, I already know English; why do I need to take it additionally?" But that's not the case; the purpose of these subjects is to prepare us for life after graduation, so when we leave the school's doors, we'll know how to pay our bills and taxes, and we'll be able to read that one email your boss sends you when you're older.

Best Regards,
