Real Industry Job Interviews – Year 10
Real Industry Job Interviews – Year 10
On 24th October, Year 10 students battled their nerves and bravely attended a mock (practice) interview with a volunteer employer.
In the weeks preceding, students spent time in class selecting a job advertisement and preparing a resume and application letter. Students practiced hand shaking and greeting as well as preparing answers to commonly asked interview questions.
After receiving an official letter of interview offer, students dressed up for the interview and were taken by bus to Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre to sit their interview.
Students returned feeling very positive about their experience and will been given written feedback and suggestions for improvement from the interviewers. This feedback can be used to refine their job applications and interview techniques for the future.
A lovely brunch was provided back at Lalor North Secondary College for the students to celebrate their valuable experience.
Lalor North Secondary College staff and students are very grateful to the Hume Whittlesea Local Learning & Employment Network for organising this massive event which involved hundreds of students from local secondary schools, and we also give sincere thanks to the many employers who gave up their morning to give students an interview.
A special thanks to the Ms Frazer and Ms Lemire for assisting the students on the day of the interviews.

RIJI - What did our students think?
This experience felt very beneficial to me. The interviewer held herself very well and seemed knowledgeable in her field, specifically on how to conduct an interview. Her advice gave me the opportunity to further better myself and figure out how a real job interview would be. I feel confident in my ability to partake in future job interviews.

My experience with the interview I had was the best. The interviewer too, was great - understanding and very polite. My interviewer also gave me very good feedback. I wasn’t really expecting it to go this well, but I loved it. Now I know how to act on my first very own job interview in the future.

My interview experience went very well, the employer asked questions that were mostly on the sample questions given to me in class. She waited patiently and listened intently to how I was answering. She told me that although I was nervous, that I did really well and my answers were very professional and if it was a real interview, she would hire me.

The Real Industry Job Interview was a great experience for me and my peers. The interviewer showed interest and asked questions like ‘What are your qualities?’, ‘When have you showed leadership?’, and many more. I recommend this experience to all students as I learnt how to write a resume and how to prepare myself.

This opportunity has been instrumental in enhancing our knowledge as students about what a genuine job interview entails and the types of questions that might be posed, enabling us to be better prepared. About two weeks ago, our teachers coached us on proper conduct when conversing with interviewers and provided valuable tips, such as maintaining eye contact, offering a firm handshake, maintaining an appropriate distance and avoiding stuttering. We would like to express our gratitude to Alina and Sue for their guidance leading up to the event, as well as for helping us gain valuable new experiences.
On the day of the interview, every student felt a mix of nervousness and anxiety. However, as soon as we entered the interview room, we were greeted by the interviewers. Thanks to this, we were able to communicate clearly and present ourselves in a professional manner.

Student VET Awards
Our LNSC students have amazing opportunities provided to them to study a VET Course as one of their subjects.
VET stands for Vocational Education and Training, and studying a VET Course is a good way to explore different occupations while you are still at school, and test whether you are interested in pursuing a future in that industry.
We are proud of all our participating students, and particularly the following students who have been nominated by their VET Trainers for awards this year!
