Latrobe University Year 8 Careers Excursion

Students from year 8 commenced their Career Education for 2023 this week. It started with a bang heading out to Latrobe University.

Students learnt about general information such as the the cost of going to uni and how long courses take.

After a quick snack in the Agora…and many eating HSPs at speed…we headed to the workshops.

Here the students actively participated in presenting a news bulletin where they operated cameras, sound, auto cue and graphics. In 1 hour they got it together and presented a slick news and weather forecast.

The Science group performed an experiment dressed in lab coats where they tested fluid in beakers for ‘contamination’.

This exercise illustrated how quickly pathogens can be circulated just as in the Covid pandemic. It also underscored logarithmic growth. A great lesson in why some of the recent lockdowns were necessary.

They were excellent and curious young scientists.

After another quick snack at the Agora we headed back to school for lunchtime soccer.

What a fun day and more Careers sessions will occur in November,

See you then.
