Year 5 Production – ‘When I Grow Up’ performed at Phoenix Theatre on 12th & 13th September 2023

In an extraordinary effort, our Year 5 students delivered two amazing performances of this joyful, upbeat and dramatic production during the last week of Term Three. CONGRATULATIONS! Throughout a term of rehearsing, we made massive leaps of progress towards rollicking performances, learning about ourselves and each other all the way.

Year 5 students, thank-you for learning the work, persevering with rehearsals and finding a way to take yourselves far from your comfort zone. By the time we reached theatre, it was clear that the attitude of ‘whatever it takes’ was adopted by all staff, students and parents involved, and resulted in delightful performances! Year 5 teaching team, the support you offered so performance goals could be met was both timely and effective. I hope we all carry the concept of 1% improvement forwards as a secret to success for life!

My heartfelt thanks also to these key contributors and the teams who so ably supported them – Barry and Jenny Johnston (poster & program), Susana Strehl Ferriera (costumes), Ben Corless (sets), Shannon Barnes (Make-Up), Heather Cunsolo (props), and Svitlana Dahlberg (photography, costumes & errands) – who invested a huge amount of time and effort into the success of this show. Your input helped to bring the story to life in the most vivid of ways and our Year 5 students’ experience of performing was all the richer for it!

Finally, please allow me to thank you, the entire PMPS community, for supporting our theatre tradition so strongly during 2022-23. The Covid interruption to our lives during 2020-21 meant that many things were put on hold as we isolated for the safety of all. While emerging from it, PMPS Leadership made the decision, with strong support from stakeholders within the school, that all students should have the opportunity to rediscover the power of community and togetherness through performing in a production. Thank-you for your unwavering support of your children as they’ve performed these shows, through volunteering your time, and skills to help get the shows together, and investing in tickets to attend performances. Performance is so much more fun with an audience to perform to!

In summary, staging four productions in two years has been an unprecedented effort, and one that while incredibly rewarding, I hope we never have reason to consider again. I’m very glad to be returning to a ‘normal’ year in 2024!

Happily, because we are all caught up, next year we’ll revert to the pre-Covid norm of ONE production per year, performed in the last week of Term Three by Year Four students. The next PMPS production will be performed at Phoenix Theatre, Elwood Secondary College on September 17th & 18th, 2024.

Please put these dates in your diary and support us if you can … we look forward to entertaining you!

CoPP Citizenship Ceremony on 14th September:

When I received an SOS from Music Teacher Natalya at Middle Park Primary on Sunday 10th September asking for choristers to help with this event at the last minute, I was unsure whether we would be able to. The timing was difficult as it was Production Week.

I was both impressed and delighted that ten of our students were able to assist with this performance, especially as I couldn’t be there. My heartfelt thanks to all families who re-arranged their lives to support this performance and helped to make it a memorable event. Natalya was very grateful for your support, and the video I saw sounded and looked great! I hope you enjoyed this opportunity to sing with a different choir leader!

With thanks,

Maria
