When the Middle and Senior year level students immersed themselves in exploring the unit of learning food(食物) during each Chinese lesson, they not only felt fascinated by the delicious food but also dug deeper into comparing it with various cultures' cuisines from around the world. Some displayed courage by presenting their findings in front of the class. Students were amazed by the similarities and differences they discovered while comparing their own cultural heritage with Chinese food. They noticed that regardless of the food's origins, they all had unique flavours, enriching our appreciation of the diverse world of cuisine.
As a hands-on experience, making Mooncakes (月饼) became a bonus to celebrate their learning journey. This activity also marked a special celebration of the traditional Mid-Autumn festival, symbolising the autumn harvest and family gatherings for Chinese people. Students also noted the interesting fact that our season is opposite to that of all the other countries in the Northern Hemisphere!
The Junior and Prep students explored learning different colours in Chinese, using various methods such as singing, dancing, drawing, and colouring. While practising their Chinese, they were introduced to ICT (Information and Communication Technology) tools, allowing them to explore colours at their own pace or engage in interactive team modes with the whole class using educational game apps like Kahoot or Gimkit. These tools were effectively used to reinforce their learning, making it a delightful experience to students!
"Learning Chinese is hard, but I think I can do it!" We admire the students' 'can-do' attitude, as we believe that positivity will take them far in any of their educational journey!
