Prep News

Hello families,

We have had a great first few weeks of term, every one is settled into our routine once again and we have been doing amazing work each and every day.

Firstly, a big warm welcome to Caidyn who has joined Prep AA. Caidyn loves basketball, telling jokes and is an amazing reader!

In reading we are exploring Narrative texts, working on our handwriting and our knowledge of stories to help write our own! We have been consolidating letter sound knowledge to help with our reading in the mornings and working on listening to words and writing them out.

In numeracy we have been focusing on addition, subtraction and starting division, we also introduced a numeracy program called “Math Seeds” that the children have been really enjoying. It has given our students an opportunity to interact with digital technologies in a

meaningful way and providing new, fun and engaging

ways to develop their maths skills.

Students were lucky enough to learn about their health and well being with their incursion from St Johns Ambulance. Students learnt about first aid for themselves and others around them. Revising what to do in an emergency and being able to ask questions to professionals in the field.

Just an update for Swimming which is beginning in week five - we have been talking a lot about looking after our belongings and ourselves when we go to swimming. Before we start our swimming days, it would be great for students to practise packing their belongings in their swimming bags, taking shoes on and off independently and being able to dry themselves to ensure the changeover from pool to school is as easy as possible for them! We are all getting so excited and cannot wait for the weeks to come.

I am so proud of the learning and the positive attitudes that occur in our room every day, hoping you are all well!

Miss A.

Welcome back to school - Term 4 already!

This term we are focused on consolidating understanding in the key areas of numeracy, reading and writing. We have opened up our

doors and are working together and helping each other every day.

In Numeracy we have started the Term revising division and learning tricks and tips to help us solve written problems. Last term the staff had a Curriculum Day with Michael Ymer and we were lucky enough to have him visit the school and work with our grades. The students enjoyed more than an hour working on number with him and they had a great time. Staff were able to watch him weave his magic and we all came away with lots of great ideas to try.

When reading, students have been identifying text types. They have been re-reading texts to

find the answers to questions and identifying nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and pronouns.

Students have begun writing persuasive pieces on the topic 'Reading is more important than writing/Writing is more important than reading.' When completed, students will type them to publish.

Finally, students have been learning about maps in Geography. We have used Google Maps to find specific places, looked at town planning and why things are where they are and drawn maps using a bird's eye view.

At the end of last term we went to MoPA. It was an amazing place and we had a great time. We've included some photos for you to enjoy!
