Prep A

Celebrating Learning

Students are enjoying the consistent rhythm of their days. Knowing what to expect in their day is noticeably helping students to settle into their routines quickly, offering freedom to explore and learn in a safe setting.

Literacy

We have introduced small group rotations this week using decodable readers, games, and worksheets to practise our phonics. Here are our graphemes, so far:

  • /m/ mop
  • /s/ sat
  • /f/ fan
  • /a/ ant
  • /p/ pit
  • /t/ tip
  • /c/ cat
  • /i/ ink
  • /b/ bat
  • /h/ hat

Numeracy

In Maths, students have been introduced to tens frames to build and count to 10 and beyond. They are learning the value of using 10 to quantify and compare larger collections. We have started our measurement/time unit and have been sequencing events in our days.

Outdoor Play-Based Learning (PBL)

The games club is in full swing with most students joining in for part-of or the full duration of our session. Small world play continues to attract students.

Here are some of the activities that have been happening in our garden this week:

"I’m making elephant poo using mud. There’s an emu print on top. I’m collecting all the elephant poo together and making it into clay. This one’s ginormous! It’s from a baby elephant. This is how big a baby elephant poo is."
Rune

"We’re building a dam in the big area to catch all the water. I’m selling mud balls. I’m going to make a mud ball shop."
Tegan
"We pulled out all the grass and weeds. There was a fungus nearby and we squashed it with sticks and got rid of it."
Lenny
"We are finding rocks for the baby snakes because then they can bask."
Morgan
"This volcano is for the fairies and when we pour the water it’s going to flood and it’s going to be a water slide. They are going to slide down inside the volcano and they’ll come up with the waves and go whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"
Nattai

"We’ve got sticks and we are going to catch a fishy. Oh no! This one’s got my stick and is pulling me in! Look at all the fish! We’ve got a baby fish and are making a fish trap."
Lenny & Sitara
