From the Prefects

Ed Southwell and Halle Doyle, Head Prefects

Hello families of Kinross Wolaroi,

Welcome to Term 2, arguably the busiest term of the year. We are delighted to have all of our staff and students back on campus and ready to get stuck into another term of learning, experience, and fun.

Kinross Wolaroi started the term of with a resounding show of skill and enjoyment as a handful of staff and student representatives danced in the 'Stars of Orange' Cancer Council charity fundraiser. With a jubilant dance, full of sunshine and rainbows, the Kinross Wolaroi representatives did our school proud. As the girl boarders came together to witness the incredible dancing skills of our staff and students, we were blown away by the talent and ability that they presented, with our school taking out the Peoples’ Choice Award.  We couldn’t be prouder of the dance group for the bravery and courage they showed, putting themselves out there for a great cause.

Winter sports are in full swing once again, with all sporting teams having their first game of the season over the course of the last week. We wish luck to all our sporting teams for the rest of the season and hope to see some incredible games across the board. As always, Kinross Wolaroi prides ourselves on our sportsmanship and we can’t wait to witness both the wins and losses that come with competing in team and individual sports. We would also like to extend our best wishes to the Year 7 students as they journey through their transition into senior sport, a great opportunity, despite its trials and tribulations, to get active, and make new friends.

The School's 2024 musical, Chicago, has recommenced its rehearsals as the big performance date draws nearer. The cast and crew will soon begin their Sunday rehearsals in addition to their Friday rehearsals, preparing to knock us off our feet with their talent! We cannot wait to see what the school produces this year.

Cadets is starting up again this week, with preparations for the Passing out Parade beginning. The cadets have all recovered from their Annual Camp, ready for our final term of the cadet year. The camp was an excellent opportunity for the cadets to better their fundamental skills, as well as gaining hands on learning out in the field. Put to the test through activities such as navigation, archery, canoeing and abseiling, there was much to be learnt and experienced. The CUO’s couldn’t be happier with the outcome of their final camp and are glad that their cadets got stuck in and gave everything a go.

Last week, the top 6 prefects, consisting of me and Halle, Charlie and Nina, James and Aimee, and Claire, travelled to Sydney for the second half of the Moderator’s workshop. This Uniting Church initiative allows the leaders of NSW Uniting Church Schools to meet to discuss relevant issues that benefit each school’s unique school community. This is a rare opportunity for Kinross Wolaroi School because of the distance between us and these schools and is vital in forging connections between the student body of each school.

We travelled down on the conclusion of the school day on the Friday, the girls spending the night at Pymble Ladies' College, and the boys spending the night at Knox Grammar School. As a group, we would like to give our warmest thanks to those who hosted us in their boarding houses. We felt infinitely welcome, and met many new people, furthering Kinross Wolaroi School’s connection to a broader range of schools and their students.

The next morning, we were once again on the bus, commuting to Pitt Street, the location of the NSW Uniting Church offices. It was here that we engaged in a thought-provoking workshop which elucidated and evoked insight into major issues that were consistent throughout our communities. Discussing topics such as environmental decay, school spirit, and community building, we were able to receive and offer suggestions into how we can  better our school and wider community.

With a plethora of new ideas, we made the journey home, all 7 of us now motivated and excited to see how we can implement what we learnt into our school.
