Around the Junior School
Orange Show Schools Display
At this year’s Orange Show, the Junior School entered a display in the ‘Schools Display’ section. The theme was The History of our School.
Students thoroughly enjoyed learning about the School’s history, including learning about significant individuals who helped shaped the school to be what it is today, as well as learning information about the construction of certain buildings or facilities still used by Kinross Wolaroi students today.
Artworks were completed by students from Kindergarten to Year 6, with each grade focusing on a different aspect of the school’s past.
Congratulations to all Junior School students involved in the process of creating the display; it received a Highly Commended ribbon.

Da Vinci Decathlon
Last term a group of students from Year 5 and Year 6 participated in the Da Vinici Decathlon held at Scots All Saints College Bathurst. Our team of eight competed across 10 disciplines: engineering, mathematics, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy. For each discipline the students were presented with a problem that they needed to solve.
Our team consisted of Angus Triggs, Felix Knox, Dylan Cutter, Max Golding, Julian Capanas, Faustine Geronimo, Georgia Dunn and Aria Patel who all worked together to problem solve and think creatively to provided answers for the tasks they were presented with. I am overjoyed to report that they represented the Kinross Wolaroi Junior School with pride and determination earning themselves third place in the legacy discipline.
Autumn in Pre-Kindy
This week in Pre-Kindy we have been learning about the four seasons, focusing on Autumn. Our Monday class went on a leaf hunt, searching the junior school playground for different; colour, shape and size leaves. We also made a big pile of leaves in our own playground and loved throwing them up in the air and dancing in them as they fell to the ground. Such fun and wonder for everyone.
Kids Lit Quiz
Thursday May 2, 2024
Kinross Wolaroi's Kids’ Lit Team comprised 22 students this year. We had three Senior School teams, two Junior School teams and two reserves. The Central West heat was held at James Sheahan Catholic High School on 2 May 2024.
Kids Lit is an annual literature quiz for students aged 10-13 years. Quizzes are held in many countries around the world. We were faced with 10 categories (Amphibians, Aviation, Big Cats, Colours, Dancing, Dogs, Names, Superstitions, Tattoos and Wives) with 10 questions in each category so we had 100 questions to answer on the day.
If a team won a round, they were all able to choose a book prize. Sometimes, there would be an individual competition and some of our students were lucky enough to win $5 if they were the first correct guess. They might have been given an author’s biography and had to guess the author or perhaps they were read the first page of a book and had to guess the title.
This year Alexander Priest, Milly Middleton, Josie Cardiff and Harrison Church placed 3rd overall and Ethan Butchard, Maggie McRae, Austin Wark and Nick Sweetapple came first. The winning team are now heading to Sydney to compete at the National Final on Monday 3 June.
