News - from Chris and Mel in the kitchen & garden

In the Garden with Mel

Grade 23 harvested yellow cherry tomatoes and herbs for P1 cooking. 4-6 classes worked really hard to clear all the summer veg that have finished. They mulched the beds they cleared and planted greens. We also made seed packets and collected flower seeds for summer.

In the Kitchen with Chris

This week Grade P/1 made Australian Pumpkin soup and Pumpkin and Tomato and two types of Focaccia.

The soup group with Chris used the delicious Red Kauri pumpkin and tomatoes we cooked last class and froze to make the Pumpkin and Tomato soup.  The Australian Pumpkin Soup (by Matt Preston) had the secret ingredient of apples. They learnt how to chop the pumpkin and onion and measure the water and stock powder and seasoning for the soup.

Marcus’ group made delicious Herb Focaccia and Tomato and Parsley Focaccia.   They learnt how to measure the ingredients, mix the yeast and knead and rest the dough and chop the herbs. The Focaccia was a big hit and disappeared quickly!

Bobby said the pumpkin soup was just great and the focaccia was great with the soup.  Matilda said, “I made the one with tomato and I loved it”

Nicholas said, “I had the Australian soup and I liked it.”
