Admin Corner

By Jacinta Gaffy

Welcome back to another edition of the Admin Corner!

As the newest member of the office administration team, with a background in medical reception, I come with a passion to learn and work collaboratively with those around me.

I believe it is important to foster positive relationships with all members of the school community in order that people feel safe, at ease and cared for.  I strive to encourage students even in the little ways to reach their full potential, both personally and academically.

In my spare time I enjoy getting out in nature, walking, drawing, baking, and spending quality time with my family and friends.

I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to all staff, parents, and students, who have so warmly welcomed me into the Glen Waverley Primary School Community.

In this addition, I would like to gently remind you of the following.

  • Our school office hours are 8am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday

Please feel free to contact us on (03) 9802 9938 during these times.

  • The lost property box is currently overflowing with unnamed clothing.

Please check that your child’s uniform and belongings are clearly labelled with their full name.  This will ensure lost items are returned promptly.

  • ALL student absences are required by the Department of Education to be explained and recorded in Compass.  Doing so enables student well-being to be monitored and support provided to families who are experiencing issues affecting student attendance, and for staff to plan for the day.
  • Please be sure to enter Compass absences first thing in the morning, or the night beforehand.  Failure to do so will result in an automatic email message to parents advising that their child is absent from school, without an explanation.
  • Late Arrivals are required to sign in at the school office where the student will be given a late slip, and their arrival entered in Compass.  This will prevent the 10am email from being sent while letting the classroom teacher know that the arrival has been recorded.
  • Families planning holidays for an extended period of three or more days, are required to provide written details in the form of an email to each of the following:

(1) the classroom teacher

(2) the school office (glen.waverley.ps@education.vic.gov.au

(3) our principal Mr. Catalano (frank.catalano@education.vic.gov.au

Your email must include the dates your child will begin their absence and the date they will return to school.

Unexplained absences are regularly followed up with a phone call or a letter requesting you to promptly enter a note in Compass with an explanation for your child’s absence.

Below is a link which includes step by step instructions, on how to do so:

This guide is also available on our school website www.glenps.vic.edu.au under the section Parents and Topics COMPASS.

Furthermore, I would like to take a moment to remind you about our school's telephone system and provide some valuable information. To ensure efficient communication, we have three telephone lines available for your convenience:

  • Line 1 (Main): 9802 9938
  • Line 2: 9802 7724
  • Line 3: 9802 4579

Best practice is we recommend that you save all three numbers; however, the main number, Line 1 (9802 9938), is used for all incoming calls. The system is designed so that if Line 1 is busy, calls will automatically route to Line 2 and then Line 3.

It's essential to note that when our staff members make outgoing calls, they may use Line 1, Line 2, or Line 3. Therefore, saving all three numbers in your phone will ensure you don't miss any important calls.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to call us or to pop past the office for a friendly chat, as we are always happy to help.

Warm regards,

Jacinta Gaffy
