In Performing Arts, the Year 5 and 6 students have continued to explore film music. We've watched Star Wars, ET, Jaws and even The Lion King! Along the way, we've learned about all the instruments of the orchestra and what kind of mood they typically set. Timpani Drums, brass and cellos make things dramatic, while piccolos, flutes and harps are typically used for fun, light, pretty scenes.
Year 3 and 4 have been playing "Shalom" on xylophones, each keeping their own part - very tricky!
Our most exciting thing in Visual Arts this week has been the delivery of 50 penguins!!!
Where are they from? Why are they here? What do they want? Come along to open night next Thursday to find out...
It was wonderful to watch our kitchen garden program working in unison this week. 5/6S planted silverbeet seedlings in term 1 which have grown into a luscious crop. The lunchtime garden club harvested half of this crop on Monday. The silverbeet was then cooked into 4 different recipes this week by 5/6A. We were also able to use fresh eggs from our chickens and a variety of herbs from our wall.
With the help of our wonderful parent helpers and student teacher we were able to have fun creating some delicious meals to share.
The past few weeks in PE, we have been focusing on ball handling.
Years Prep-2 have been working on foundational ball skills such as throwing, catching, bouncing and controlling the ball.
In years 3-6, the students have been practising basketball skills, netball skills and we are about to move on to European hand ball.
In 3-6 sport, we have started our winter sports for the year. We are looking at 3 different sports: netball, soccer and softball. The year 6 captains and year 5 leaders have been working hard to make sport fun and also help younger students learn a little bit more about each sport.
