Around the Primary Classrooms

OSHC
What an amazing term we have had in Before and After School Care. The girls have built wonderful connections with the ELC children and have loved supporting them through group games and shared play experiences. It has been so special to see these friendships grow and the confidence shine through.
One of our favourite highlights has been coming together for afternoon tea. These moments give us the chance to relax, chat, and decide together what fun activities we’d like to enjoy that afternoon. Teamwork, laughter, and great ideas are always had!
Arts and crafts have been an absolute winner this term. From creative masterpieces to collaborative projects, everyone has loved expressing themselves and trying new ideas.
We are so proud of the kindness, creativity, and enthusiasm shown throughout the term. We can’t wait for more fun, friendships, and exciting activities in 2026.
ELC
Term 4 has been a rich and meaningful term at ELC, filled with faith, connection, learning and celebration. Children deepened their understanding of faith and spirituality through daily prayer, Bible stories and reflective discussions, showing curiosity and joy as they explored God’s love, creation, kindness and gratitude.
A strong focus on emotional well-being and literacy supported children to identify, express, and manage a wide range of emotions. Through stories, group discussions, role-play and creative experiences, children developed empathy, self-regulation and confidence. All of which are important foundations for school readiness and positive relationships.
Children strengthened their sense of belonging by participating in college events such as assemblies, specialist classes on the main school campus and Grandparents Day. These experiences helped them feel connected to the wider Mount Carmel College community while building confidence, independence and social skills.
Our commitment to sustainability continued, with children engaging in nature play, recycling routines, and learning about caring for the environment. Weekly visits to nature play fostered curiosity, responsibility and a growing respect for the natural world.
We also celebrated cultural diversity, including Diwali, through hands-on, creative experiences that promoted inclusivity, respect and understanding of different traditions.
Term 4 concluded with joyful celebrations as we prepared our hearts for Christmas and looked ahead to the New Year.

Year 1
We have had the best time best in Year 1 this year! We have grown, learnt new skills, been on exciting excursions and cared for each other.
We went on an excursion to Borong Wildlife Sanctuary as part of our Habitats unit. The animals there we so interesting. There was even an echidna who had three legs and was blind, but he didn't let that stop him! His name was Mario. We fed the kangaroos and met a baby wombat called Bessy.
We saw lots of musicals this year. The Lizard of Aus was our favourite. It was performed at the Botanical Gardens and the we couldn't pick a favourite character, they were all great!
In Religion, we went on a Church Crawl and compared three different churches. We even got a glimpse of the new Archbishop at St Mary's Cathedral.
The Marine Discovery Centre at Woodbridge, Learn to Swim and our Bush to Beach session were also highlights.
Art was one of our favoutite subject this year. We learnt how to draw portraits, make collages and clay animals as well as use Aboriginal symbols to tell stories.
Maths was awesome! We learnt new number patterns, and even how to add using vertical addition.
Ending the year with the Nativity was a something we were all very proud of. We loved learning the songs and doing the actions and being able to dress up.
Our teachers are very happy because they don't have to say goodbye to us this year, they are teaching us again in 2026! Thanks you Mount Carmel for a wonderful year.
Students of Year 1
Year 5
Recently the Year 5 students set off on their overnight camp at Spring Beach. With an early start we had 43 eager girls and 4 slightly nervous staff arrive at our destination by 10am. We hit the ground running as we jumped straight into our planned activities. 3 groups headed off to their respective activities of Zip Lining across a deep lake, Archery target practice and Catapult making.
Over 4 hours of physical fun later, the girls were ready for a delicious dinner of vegetarian schnitzel, wedges, vegetables and garlic bread. If that wasn't enough the girls feasted upon a beautifully slice of Bavarian ice cream cake.
After such a feast it was time to gather around the campfire to sing some songs and sing the girls did clearly keeping awake any wildlife that was trying to sleep.
From campfire to bedtime and the real test for the Year 5 staff's patience. And much to our surprise the girls quickly went off the sleep without even a whisper. However, the same could not be said for the morning as Mr Lowe was awoken to what sounded like a herd of elephants in Rooms 11 and 12 at 5am so within 30mins all 43 girls were up and about ready to start the day.
Due to the early start, we were ahead of schedule so after breakfast we headed to the beach much earlier than planned. Once at the beach the brave took to the icy cold water for a swim and despite turning blue with cold the staff had to insist they get out.
Next stop was the Orford park for lunch and a play before heading back to school on the bus which was not as quiet as we expected.
The camp was a great success with the girl's showing great resilience, teamwork and care for each other. Many thanks to Lu and Mrs Fasnacht for their support on the camp.
Year 6
Planted alongside the trees outside Providence House, this apple tree is a gift from the Year 6 2025 cohort to the Primary School, symbolising growth, gratitude, and the journey we have shared.
