Digital Technologies

At HEPS, Digital Technologies is about far more than time spent on a computer. From Foundation to Grade 6, our students engage in rich, hands-on learning experiences that develop the skills and mindsets they need for a rapidly changing world.

Student start with exploring patterns, sequencing and simple coding concepts through play-based activities that build logical thinking and confidence. As students move through the year levels, they deepen their understanding through coding projects, robotics challenges, 3D design tasks and circuitry investigations. These experiences encourage them to design, test, refine and rethink their ideas.

Working with robotics, students learn to collaborate, troubleshoot and persist when things don’t go to plan. Through 3D design, they transform creative ideas into digital models, developing spatial awareness and design thinking. Circuitry projects introduce them to the fundamentals of how technology works, sparking curiosity about the systems that power our world.

Importantly, Digital Technologies at HEPS is grounded in developing curious and problem-solving learners. Students are encouraged to ask questions as they investigate real-world problems and create meaningful solutions. By blending creativity with critical thinking, we are equipping our students not just to use technology — but to understand it, shape it and innovate with it.

Cyber Safety Project

We are excited to announce that HEPS have partnered with the Cyber Safety Project. As part of our commitment to student wellbeing and ensuring our students are safe digital citizens, we are integrating their evidence-based, whole-school approach to digital safety education into our digital technologies lessons. Safer Internet Day-10th February

The internet connects us more than ever – it’s where we learn, work, socialise and share our lives, but that also means online risks are part of everyday life.

Safer Internet Day is an opportunity to take a moment to talk about what’s really happening online and think about what we can each do to make it better. Because when we each do something small – whether that’s starting a conversation, sharing a tip or changing a habit – we make a big difference to everyone’s online experience.

On the lead up to this day, students have started to explore strong passwords and e-safety, and our student leaders will be discussing tips on being safe online at the next assembly.
