How do I decide which school will be best for my child? What research do I need to do? What information can schools provide? What questions should I ask?
This seminar will give you some places to start in your quest to find a good fit school for your gifted child, and practical suggestions and ideas for WHAT to advocate for at your school - what types of provisions schools could and do make for gifted children, regardless of the sector of education your child’s school is enrolled in from the classroom to external activities. It will also provide you with advice on HOW to advocate.

It can be challenging navigating the complexities of making sure your gifted child has access to appropriate schooling and educational provisions. This seminar will give you practical tips and advice for proactively building positive relationships with the staff at your child’s school, as well as effective communication strategies for handling difficult situations. We will also discuss the importance of documenting dialogue with the school in the form of keeping records of important discussions and decisions.
Victorian Coding Challenge
Do you have a child who loves to code? Students with a creative yet logical mindset, who love to problem solve engaging, real-world problems, are encouraged to participate in the coding challenge. The VCC aims to extend curious minds, nurture passions, and support students in refining their coding skills.
Victorian Coding Challenge - Mathematical Association of Western Australia (MAWA)
Who Can Participate?
The VCC is available to students in Years 5-10 and is specifically targeted towards high-ability students who have a passion for coding or are curious to explore it further.
Challenge Details
Students will receive a virtual kit containing a series of fun and engaging coding tasks. These tasks can be completed via a user-friendly online platform, accessible from both school and home. The challenges will require students to apply coding and algorithmic thinking to solve interesting problems. Students can work on these tasks at their own pace, either at school or during school holidays. Scaffolding and coding resources will be provided for additional support, and teachers will have access to suggested solutions.
Registration Information
Registration opens in Term 2 each year, with the coding kits then available and accessible until the end of the year. The cost per student is $13, and parents can register their students using the provided registration form.
