Level 6
We're a great mix in Level 6!
The Level 6 students have had a great start to the year and are settling well into a routine. We started the year with the Positive Start program, focussing on building our supportive, respectful, and collaborative classroom cultures, with a focus on learning and behaviour expectations. Our Community BBQ on Friday was a big hit with all students. Thanks to all of our parent helpers who helped to contribute to that success!
Level 6 students are enjoying the extra responsibilities that come along with being in Level 6, such as presenting at assemblies and selling icy-poles. They are also VERY excited to start buddies over the coming weeks.
In Reading, students have begun our class novel and are learning how to effectively summarise both fiction and non-fiction texts. Our new Inquiry unit, Events and Change in Modern Australia, has also commenced and is being integrated into Reading through the summarising of non-fiction texts, with a focus on Federation and key historical figures of the time.
Now that the Positive Start program is finished, we are working on building up our stamina for writing for extended periods. Soon we will begin our unit on narrative writing, with a focus on elements such as planning, developing ideas and hooking the reader in.
The Level 6 students began our Maths unit early during the Positive Start program. The main focus has been number and place value. We have been working with decimals, prime and composite numbers, creating factor trees, and identifying square and triangular numbers. Students particularly enjoyed the ‘Sticky Numbers’ problem-solving activity.
