Level 3 & 4

Week 5, Term 4

Events

On Monday, school will be open. Due to Tuesday being Cup Day, with many students being away there will be an alternative program and your child may be put in a multiage class for the day. If your child will not be attending, please update Sentral to notify us. Tuesday is a public holiday for Cup Day.

Reading

Our poetry focus continues as we explore poetic devices such as:

  • Neologism (creating nonsense or made-up words) through Jabberwocky
  • Spoonerism (swapping initial sounds of words for humour)

Students will read limericks and learn about poetic structure and rhyme. We will also continue our work on homophones. Ask your child to share a limerick they liked!

Writing

Students will be creating their own limericks, incorporating neologisms and spoonerisms.  This week’s timed writing task will be a narrative. Ask your child to share some of the fun neologisms and spoonerisms they’ve used in their limericks.

Mathematics

We are learning about fractions of collections, with Grade 4 students also exploring how to convert fractions to percentages and decimals. We will begin our unit on mass — next time you visit the supermarket, encourage your child to estimate and check weights (in grams) in the fruit, vegetable, and deli sections. To help practise times tables, please encourage your child to use Mathletics Multiverse at home.

CBL

Students are preparing to present their discoveries about their chosen African country using their Keynote presentations. They will practise speaking and listening skills, including voice projection, pacing, and making eye contact. Please encourage your child to rehearse their presentation at home with family members.
