This week, students will be reading Give Bees a Chance by Bethany Barton. This engaging picture book uses humour, facts, and persuasive techniques to encourage readers to see the importance of bees and why we should care for them. Building on last week’s learning, students will explore how the author uses persuasive writing techniques such as emotive language, strong arguments, and facts, to share a clear point of view.

What can you do at home?

  • Nessy is a great literacy resource to use that supplements your child's reading in a fun engaging way on their iPad
  • Have your children try to convince you of something using the persuasive techniques we have learnt
  • Have your child ask you questions about the books that they are reading.
  • Before reading a book, have your child make predictions about the story line

🧮 Maths:

Grade One Students:

This week in Maths, our Grade 1 students are beginning their new unit on Time. They will start by learning to name and order the seven days of the week and the twelve months of the year. Students will take part in hands-on activities to help them recognise familiar time sequences and develop their understanding of how we organise days and months throughout the year.

What can you do at home?

  • Talk about the days of the week: ask your child what day it is today, what day it was yesterday, and what day it will be tomorrow.
  • Create a weekly timetable together showing school days, sports, or special activities.

Grade Two Students:

This week in Maths, our Grade 2 students are continuing to develop their understanding of Time by learning how to use calendars to identify days and dates. They will also explore how to calculate the number of days, weeks and months between dates. Students will use real and classroom calendars to solve simple problems and recognise patterns in how we organise time throughout the year.

What can you do at home?

  • Look at a family calendar together and talk about upcoming events or holidays.
  • Ask your child to find today’s date or count how many days until a special event.
  • Discuss how many weeks are left in the month or how many months until their birthday.
  • Encourage your child to record important dates (like sports days or birthdays) on a calendar.

🌏 CBL:

Our new Big Idea: Discovery 🔍

To follow our Big Idea Discovery, we will be focussing on the world of 'Minibeasts'!

Students will be looking at the habitats of these creatures and how they survive.

Mont De Lancey

The Grade One and Two students, teachers and parent helpers had a wonderful time exploring this property in Wandin North last week. Students were engaged in the old school house, museum, games and trades from the past and should have bought home a created memento and many stories to share. Many thanks to our wonderful parent helpers who supported this learning experience!
