WHAT AN INCREDIBLE ART SHOW!

Congratulations to our AMAZING artists on a wonderful Art Show – Secrets of the Garden. Every child presented unique, creative and thoughtful pieces and should feel very proud of themselves! A huge thank you to our wonderful Art teachers, Jess Obushak and Kaila Michael for the inspiration and care they give our artists every day. Special thanks to Ms Michael, who went above and beyond to plan and produce the entire show.

It was so lovely to see our community come together for the event. Thank you to every person who contributed with donations of goods or time, whether on the barbeque, painting faces, selling cakes or setting up and packing up. We can’t run these events without you. Thank you to our school band for keeping us entertained all night. To the teachers who were dunked, we thank you for the memories and endless laughter. And a very special thank you to Louise Pedersen, who worked tirelessly to plan the event, organise schedules, coordinate donations, the list goes on. Lou, you are wonderful and we are very grateful that we have such a giving person in our community!

I’m pleased to announce that Ben Sandison has been appointed as our new Learning Specialist. Ben is an outstanding educator and leader and we are very excited to have him join our leadership team.  Ben will support teachers and teams with their planning and practice. He will also coach and support our new staff as they transition to the pedagogy and practices of South Melbourne Park.

LIBRARY FUND

Thank you to those families who donated to the Library Fund this year. We have used the money to purchase lots of beautiful books for our kids to read and share, and most recently have ordered some new shelving for the top floor of the Library. The shelving will provide lots of new storage when it arrives later this term.

RESIDENT TAWNY FROGMOUTH

Have you seen our resident Tawny Frogmouth, lovingly named Tony, by one of our kids?

Tawny Frogmouths are native Australian birds renowned for their remarkable camouflage, which allows them to blend seamlessly into their surroundings and resemble broken branches during the day. These nocturnal birds have wide, frog-like beaks and mottled grey, black, and brown plumage.

Tawny Frogmouths typically mate for life, though they are not known for their nest-building skills. Their diet includes insects, worms, and small vertebrates such as frogs and mice. Found across Australia in diverse habitats, including open woodlands, forests, and urban parks, they have adapted well to living in close proximity to humans and are commonly seen in both suburban and city environments.

Check out the tree on the deck, closest to the front gate. Tony is usually up there sleeping during the day but sometimes wakes up and checks us out too!

LEAVING SMPPS?

If you are leaving South Melbourne Park Primary at the end of this year, could you please inform the school, via email at south.melbourne.park.ps@education.vic.gov.au ? It’s really important that we have a clear picture of enrolments for next year so that we can ensure staffing requirements are met.
