Building Strong Bonds: Relationship Wellness at Our School

This term, we’re focusing on a key life skill: Relationship Wellness.

It’s not just about making friends. It’s about giving children the tools to build and keep healthy, respectful connections for life.

What is Relationship Wellness?

It’s the ability to:

  • Understand and express feelings.
  • Communicate clearly and listen well.
  • Solve problems and disagreements peacefully.
  • Respect and accept everyone's differences.
  • Develop empathy and care about other’s and their feelings

How We Teach It at School

We weave relationship skills into daily school life:

  • Dedicated Lessons: We use structured programs, like the Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships curriculum, to teach core social skills and provide a common language.
  • Positive Environment: Our school environment emphasizes inclusion, safety, and consistent expectations for respectful behaviour across all areas of the school.
  • Buddy Programs: We provide activities that foster whole school connections and a strong sense of belonging within the school community.

How You Can Help at Home

The learning extends beyond the school gates! Here are a few simple ways to support your child’s relationship wellness:

  • Model Positive Communication: Your interactions with others set the standard for your child.
  • Talk About Feelings: Help them name their emotions and find healthy ways to express them.
  • Encourage Problem Solving: Guide them to think of solutions to disagreements on their own.

By working together as a TEAM, we can ensure every student develops the essential social and emotional skills needed for positive relationships and overall wellbeing.
