Maths Talent Quest (MTQ) Awards Ceremony

It was with great excitement that just under 40 students headed off on a bus to Melbourne University this week for the official MTQ Awards Ceremony. Every year, entries awarded a ‘High Distinction’ in the competition are presented with certificates at a special ceremony. This year, 13 of our class entries from Prep to Grade 4 achieved this outcome.

Representatives from these classes were called to the stage to receive their classes’ certificate. In addition to this, our Prep FG, 3B and 4E representatives went up on stage for a second time to be awarded a certificate for their classes’ entries being judged as Victorian State winners and entered into the National competition!  What an outstanding achievement!  Our 1FB representatives were also presented with a ‘Special Award’ for the Kumon Australia Award for their entry ‘What Does Difference Mean?’

The MTQ competition attracted a total of over 450 entries for judging from 50 schools. Unbeknown to us until it happened at the ceremony, Templestowe Park Primary School was then named as one of only a handful of schools to receive an ‘Outstanding School’ award due to our quality, focus and commitment towards mathematics education.  This is the fourth year in a row we have been awarded this accolade. Now we have another plaque to add to our growing trophy cabinet in the office foyer!

Participating in the MTQ requires many hours of careful planning and attention to detail in the delivery and recording of each investigation. We would like to thank our dedicated staff who work hard planning and implementing such quality programs to get our students learning about maths. Templestowe Park is proud to commit to this competition annually.
