New Boarding House Sneak Peak
From MrJames Perrin, Acting Director, Head of Boys Boarding
I am pleased to share an update on the progress of the new boarding facility currently under development on the Wolaroi site, which will accommodate our Year 7–9 boarders.
It is encouraging to see the steady advancement of this significant project. The initial timeline remains on track, with the anticipated move-in period set for Term 2, 2026. This milestone will mark an exciting new chapter for our boarding program and the broader school community.
In preparation for the opening, our Heads of Boarding House have been actively involved in providing feedback on fixtures, fittings, and furniture selections. Their insights—drawn from their experience living and working within the boarding environment—are invaluable in ensuring the facility meets the needs of our students. Importantly, this process allows for further refinements and additions once the house is operational, ensuring we continue to adapt and improve the space in response to lived experience.
We are genuinely excited about the quality of this new facility and the positive impact it will have on our boarders. It represents a significant investment in the future of our boarding program, enhancing both the living experience and the educational opportunities we can offer.
I am very pleased to be able to share with you an architect's visualisation of the interiors of the new boarding house, below.
Thank you for your continued support as we work towards delivering a vibrant and nurturing environment for our young boarders.
Junior Boarders Shine as a Chapter Closes
From Mr Rob Bell, Head of Trathen House & Mrs Deb Orrock, Head of Stuart Douglas House
As the year rapidly draws to a close, a wonderful mix of reflection and excitement fills our junior boarding houses, Trathen and Stuart Douglas. For our youngest boarders, this marks the final term in their junior houses before they transition to their new senior communities from Week 6 onwards. It’s a bittersweet time, but we couldn't be prouder of the incredible achievements and growth they've demonstrated this year. This transition to the senior houses is a key part of their development, and our focus is on building community and connection. Moving to their senior houses will introduce them to new role models and communities, a vital step we look forward to them enjoying as they continue their journey within Kinross Wolaroi Boarding.
Beyond this, the calendar has been bursting with the usual fun and unique experiences. A clear highlight on the PLC site was the Country Fair with the boarders and staff all embracing the spirit of the day, tackling the mechanical bull, showing impressive skill in apple bobbing and enjoying the thrill of the donut competition, along with many other memorable activities.
On the Wolaroi site, the atmosphere has been festive! We’ve enjoyed a combination of holiday celebrations with Halloween treasure hunts and we are already embracing the Christmas spirit with house decorating and preparations for the eagerly anticipated annual Secret Santa giving. These activities have formed part of Trathen House's visible wellbeing initiatives, focussing on fostering a culture of strong mutual support and helping everyone identify their personal strengths.
The spirit of service has continued to be robust this term. Many students participated in the recent Pink Stumps Walkathon, raising awareness and funds for Breast Cancer, and our regular commitment to assisting with Hot Meals Outreach at the Uniting Church continues to be a meaningful experience for all involved. Another recent highlight was the excursion to National Field Days, offering a valuable opportunity for our students to engage broadly with their strong agricultural connections.
We want to sincerely congratulate all our junior boarders on a fantastic year. The energy, enthusiasm, and achievements they bring to boarding life are truly remarkable.
