80th anniversary of the end of WW2

William ‘Bill’ Boylson (back row, far right) started at Wolaroi in 1934. Bill was killed when his plane was shot down over Germany in June 1944.

The Second World War touched the entire KWS community between 1939 and 1945.

Over 170 young men from Wolaroi College enlisted, including some who finished their studies during the course of the war. Of these, 18 lost their lives and are commemorated on our Roll of Honour.

There are 24 PLC Orange Alumni who served during WW2, four of whom were members of the foundation student intake of 1928. Their service included nursing and allied medical roles, or clerical and support services, both in Australia and overseas.

All were following the tradition of service established during the First World War, when the alumni of Weymouth House (1886) and Wolaroi Grammar (1893) enlisted in the first AIF. They served at Gallipoli and in the muddy trenches of the Western Front. That war ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 – the moment we mark this week on Remembrance Day.

Lest we Forget.
