Boys Dining Room Changes
The boys’ boarding community has introduced a new structure for dinner in the Wolaroi dining room this term. Wolaroi and Trathen Houses are having dinner together with mixed year level seating, and Weymouth and Tower houses are eating together at the later sitting. The new arrangements have allowed for more opportunities to socialise between houses and year groups during dinner and giving mealtimes a sense of occasion. It has been great to see the boys spending quality time with boarders from other year groups and getting to know them. Much like home dinner tables, mobile phones are not permitted, and the conversation is flowing!
PLC Country Fair Weekend
Last weekend the PLC site turned a little bit country! With an emphasis on creating fun and engaging site-wide activities for the girl boarders, the weekend allowed girls from across all houses to engage, compete and have some fun together. Friday night saw the creation and practice of line dances, one for each year group. It was great to see girls from across the houses synchronising moves, laughing and practicing, all with the ever-present competitive edge of course! Saturday night was the line dance-off where each year group performed their dances for each other, lots of encouragement and genuine appreciation for each others’ efforts. Year 11 celebrated with first place, and Year 9 came in a close second.
Sunday was the main event, with tables of country fair food (fairy bread, mini cobb loaves, chocolate crackles, hot dogs and honey joys - we had it all), donuts hanging from strings, apple bobbing and of course the mechanical bull. The spirit of the day was fantastic, girls cheering each other on, fierce across-year challenges for the elusive apple in the tub, pieces of cinnamon donut flying around as they were trying to be demolished whilst suspended, and the challenge of staying on the mechanical bull as it twisted and turned. The girls enjoyed themselves and it is safe to say the staff did too; it was an event we would love to continue next year!
NAIDOC Week in Boarding
NAIDOC week provided opportunities for members of the Boarding community to be involved in a range of activities and events in and around town, and it was great to see so many of our boarders heavily involved. Notably, the School received lots of positive comments about the contribution that our students made to NAIDOC week. It is always good to be involved, and to support the local community, and our boarders are always good at giving back and helping when needed.
Moving Houses
On Friday 14 November our Year 7 and 8, and some Year 9 boarders will be moving into new houses. On the PLC site, the girls in Year 7 will transition into the three senior houses. On the Wolaroi site, the Year 7 boys will move into Tower House; most Year 8 boys will move into either Weymouth or Wolaroi Houses, and some will stay in Tower House. This is a change from previous years where younger students would just spend a night in senior houses and then return to their existing houses.
We hope that this change will help these younger boarders on both sites settle into house routines and establish relationships with staff and with older boarders in the house, allowing for a smooth and more settled start to Term 1 2026. This week younger boarders will be informed of their houses for 2026, and the relevant Head of House will then contact parents either by email or phone calls to introduce themselves and outline important house information.
