Art & Technology

YEAR 7 Art and Technology

In Art and Design our 7.1 students have been immersed in their discovery of artists from varied times and cultures. They have been curiously experimenting with different  materials and techniques to build their visual  language and skills that they can then apply to their own creative practice. It has been so fantastic to see students creatively problem solving as they develop new confidence and  skills. As a result, you are guaranteed to see some fabulous art in our end of year exhibition coming up in November.

In Food Technology students in 7.2 have been working hard. They have been learning about hygiene and safety in the kitchen, practicing their knife handling skills, using gas and electric ovens and cooking some delicious dishes such as sausage rolls, scones, focaccia's and truffles. They have been doing a wonderful job. We have the potential to have some future Masterchef contestants in our midst.

YEAR 9-10 Electives

Our Sweet and Savory Baking students have been busy making  ‘Feather Sponge’ cakes. This term they have been looking at different methods for blending goods together (creaming, rubbing in, melting etc.) and this sponge cake was part of an in depth look at icing. So far they have explored glace, fondant as well as buttercream.

Over the past few terms year 10 Visual Arts student Charlotte Dibb has put her heart and soul into designing costumes for our school production 'Alice in Wonderland'. It has been amazing to see the journey of her sketches and ideas coming to life for the community to enjoy. A key highlight this year was the incredible Queen of Hearts costume with a customised head piece that was an absolute show stopper.

A blank canvas for our Urban Art students!
A blank canvas for our Urban Art students!

This term in our new elective Urban Art students are developing new skills that reflect the popular culture they are immersed in. They have already collaborated to create a wall of quick Paste Ups to reflect the lane ways of our rich cultural city and the idea of rapidly creating artworks using minimal materials. This has prepared them to begin exploring other materials and ideas so they can collaborate on a large themed mural to inspire their peers and the wider school. Watch closely as they transform this bland old space everyone!

This term in Igniting Curiosity in Stem, students took on the exciting challenge of designing a marble run. Their brief was to use a cardboard box and cardboard struts to create a structure where the marble would travel for 30 seconds. The results were fantastic, with students showcasing creative designs and innovative ideas. Several groups came very close to meeting the time requirement, demonstrating great problem-solving skills and teamwork.
