Trails of Discovery

The ART BOX
In the Art Box this term, students have worked by using the Arts to contribute to community. This has seen them enthusiastically designing and creating sets and props for our school production 'Alice in Wonderland'. The collaborative team work has been a joy to witness and the classroom and theatre were buzzing. Students used varied materials and techniques, problem solved ideas and worked with design briefs to create themed sets and props. It was a fantastic team effort all round.

Basketball
Recently the Basketball students had the opportunity to take part in an exciting wheelchair basketball workshop. The session gave them a chance to experience the game from a new perspective, while learning about inclusion, teamwork, and resilience.
Guided by an experienced presenter from Wheel Talk, students were introduced to the basics of manoeuvring a sports wheelchair, passing, shooting and defending. Students quickly discovered that wheelchair basketball requires not only skill but also strategy and strong communication.
The workshop not only challenged students physically, but also helped them develop a greater understanding of the importance of accessibility in sport. Many students commented on how much fun the game was, and how it gave them a new appreciation for the abilities of wheelchair athletes.
AFL
Over the past few weeks students have been working towards completing their 'First Bounce-Officiating' certificate. This is a short online self-paced course delivered by the AFL. The course aligns with the AFL Umpiring FTEM Framework and uses the same core competencies that are recognised in all AFL/AFLW Umpires. Students were required to read information, watch short videos, discuss and then respond to a range of questions across multiple modules to achieve their certificate. This certificate is a great introduction to the basics of officiating AFL and a provides the first step towards a Foundation Umpire Accreditation if students wished to pursue this in the future. Students were then able to use their updated knowledge of the game to officiate small sided mixed AFL games here at school. We hope to build on this knowledge as we move into Term 4.
