Term 3 has again been busy and successful for Warrandyte High School with students excelling at state, regional and division competitions in a range of different sporting events.
A huge congratulations to Sierra Weston her outstanding effort at the State Cross Country Championships, finishing with an impressive time of 15:49 and placing in the top 80 of all 15-year-old girls in Victoria. An amazing achievement that reflects her hard work, resilience and commitment to excellence.
Our Senior Boys Hockey team proudly represented the school at the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Finals for the fourth consecutive year. Despite tough matches against Balwyn and Mt Waverley, the team demonstrated determination, grit and a never-give-up attitude. We look forward to seeing them return for one final run in Year 12 next year.
The Intermediate Girls Netball team also shone at the Eastern Metropolitan Regional (EMR) Finals, facing Lilydale, Rowville and Vermont. Across three challenging matches,
the girls displayed exceptional teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship, with standout performances across the court. While the results didn’t fall their way, reaching EMR is an incredible achievement and the team did Warrandyte proud.
Basketball was another highlight, with five intermediate teams competing in a jam-packed competition day. All teams gave their best, showcasing their skills and came away with wins, demonstrated excellent teamwork and had plenty of fun. It was fantastic to see the students in year 9 & 10 taking on leadership opportunities whilst at basketball helping to coach and score.
Looking ahead, students are preparing for the upcoming Division Athletics Carnival, with participants selected from our Term 2 House Athletics carnival. Year 7 and 8 students are also training hard for their interschool basketball and table tennis competitions in the final week of term. We look forward to sharing their results in the next newsletter.
Interschool sport at Warrandyte isn’t only about competing, it is also about developing sporting leadership skills. Congratulations to Mia Fadel, Owen Graham, Jess McDermott, Ellie Miller, Ahoora Nikkhah and Mitchell Wellesley, who did a fantastic job officiating at the Grade 6 Girls Soccer Competition, and to Sierra West, Sarah Wheatley and Charlotte Williams, who umpired the Grade 6 Boys Netball Competition. Their professionalism, leadership and encouragement were praised by teachers, parents and students alike, making these events positive experiences for all involved. These nine students truly represented Warrandyte High School with pride and embodied our school values.
We look forward to another exciting term of sport in Term 4 and can’t wait to see more amazing achievements from our students.
