College Open Night and Book Fair: A Celebration of Learning and Community
Our recent College Open Night was a resounding success, with a continuous trail of families exploring the vibrant Learning Spaces across the college. It was heartwarming to see students proudly take ownership of their learning—sharing their work, explaining their understandings, and celebrating their strengths with parents and carers. The joy and pride on their faces were truly a highlight of the evening.
The free sausage sizzle was a crowd favourite, with one visitor commenting that “SCC smells as delicious as Bunnings on a Saturday morning!”—a compliment we’ll gladly take!
Adding to the excitement, the 2025 Book Fair was a smashing hit. Students eagerly visited the stalls throughout the week, and during Open Night, the buzz around books and reading was palpable. Thank you to everyone who contributed—your support has helped raise significant funds that will go directly toward enhancing our reading resources for students.
A sincere thank you to our staff, families, and community for making the evening such a memorable celebration of learning and connection.
Science Week 2025 – Decoding the Universe
Last week, our College celebrated National Science Week with the theme Decoding the Universe. The Science staff put together a range of hands-on and engaging activities that brought curiosity and discovery into classrooms and beyond.
Students enjoyed Elemental Bingo, testing their knowledge of the Periodic Table in a fun and competitive way. The Dry Ice demonstrations were a highlight, where students were able to visualise sublimation in action and see how it challenges the traditional rules of the three states of matter.
In the Peptide DIY Beads activity, students explored the building blocks of life by “decoding” amino acid chains and constructing peptide models. They also engaged in pH testing, gaining a better understanding of acids, bases, and indicators. Even the Year 11 Chemistry students got involved, running advanced investigations into pH and carrying out precipitation reactions to showcase chemical processes in action.
Science Week was also a time to celebrate our collective passion for learning. The staff even hosted a special lunchtime session, Secrets of the Universe, which gave everyone a chance to dive a little deeper into some of the mysteries of science.
It was a fantastic week of creativity, discovery, and inspiration. A big thank you to all the staff for their enthusiasm and to our students for bringing such curiosity and energy to every activity.

Educated by Nature
The Pre-Primary and Year Two students participated in an incursion led by Johnny and Kim from Educated by Nature. The students were so engaged in this experience, they learned how to tie a Reef knot and then had the opportunity to build a hut. The students needed to work together to find resources, tie their sticks together and then decorate their hut to create an effective shelter. It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to develop their team work and problem solving skills while having loads of fun.

Song Factory Workshop
On Friday of Week 5, sixteen enthusiastic Year 9 students from Salvado Catholic College participated in their third Career Taster experience of the year. This event marked our first collaboration with North Metropolitan TAFE, with students attending the "Song Factory" workshop at the Leederville TAFE campus.
During the session, students had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the dynamic world of music creation and sound production. They engaged in a hands-on experience using professional music equipment, instruments, and digital audio tools commonly used in the industry.
This taster not only allowed students to explore their creative sides but also provided valuable insight into what a career in the music and sound industry might look like. It helped them understand the skills, passion, and commitment required to pursue opportunities in this exciting field.
A big thank you to Mr Joyce and Mrs Krithika for their support and supervision on the day—it was very much appreciated.
We’ve even heard whispers that a recorded track from the day may be released soon... stay tuned!
Looking ahead, our next Career Taster will focus on 3D Animation at Northbridge TAFE in Week 10. We look forward to seeing more students dive into another creative and inspiring industry.
