Year 7 to Year 9
Our students continue to shine as they embrace opportunities to represent Salvado Catholic College both during and beyond school hours. As they grow through the many learning experiences life offers, we remain committed to working in partnership with parents and caregivers who are the first and most important educators.
Last Friday, our Year 8 students travelled to New Norcia to explore the inspiring legacy of Rosendo Salvado and his work with the Aboriginal people of his time. This experience, known as The Salvado Way, invites students to walk in his footsteps and reflect on his mission of service and reconciliation. It forms part of the outstanding work led by Mrs Furfaro, our Mission & Faith Life Coordinator, in nurturing the holistic development of our young people.
While the day was described by students as “fun” and “a great chance to hang out with friends away from school,” it was disappointing to see that 44 of our 108 Year 8 students did not attend this compulsory College event. I have reviewed each individual circumstance, but I want to emphasise that support for these formative experiences must begin at home. We hope to see a significant improvement in attendance at future events, as these opportunities are integral to our students’ spiritual and personal growth.
On a more uplifting note, our recent Open Night was a wonderful celebration of community. It was heart-warming to see students proudly guiding their families through classrooms, sharing their learning spaces, and engaging in conversations about their school life. These moments of connection reflect the pride our students have in their College and highlight the strong relationships we strive to build with families. This sense of belonging is the foundation of a positive College culture, and we are grateful for the shared commitment to nurturing it.
Warm regards,
Mr Brendan McGrath
