Year 11 Italian

As part of Book Week, Year 11 Italian students listened to and read a well known favourite book by Australian author Aaron Blabey, Piranhas don't eat bananas. - i Piranha non mangiano le banane. It was interesting and funny to see how certain parts of the story translated to Italian.

Immigrazione Italiana in Australia (Italian Migration to Australia)

This term, our Year 11 Italian students have been exploring the theme of migration as part of their VCE Unit 2 studies. A highlight of their learning has been conducting interviews in Italian with people who have migrated to Australia — from the early 1960s right up to 2023.

Interviewees included members of our own school community and beyond:

• Christian Steri (St Anne’s teacher)

• Gino & Anna Bergamin (Sienna Villani’s grandparents)

• Erika Caprile (former teacher at St Augustine’s College Kyabram)

• Francesca Rivetti (teacher at GSSC)

• Nancy Leocata (Michael Sorbello’s mother-in-law and Olivia Sorbello’s nonna)

• Dr Laura Lori (University of Melbourne lecturer)

These conversations gave students the chance to practise their Italian in real-life situations while gaining fascinating insights into personal migration stories. Alongside deep reflection, there were plenty of smiles and laughs shared too.

We are so grateful to each of our interviewees for generously sharing their experiences and helping bring learning to life.

Year 12 P.E

Year 12 P.E attended a Pilates session for their last session at Aquamoves recently. Congratulations to the students for their persistence during this time and getting through all the challenging sessions.

Year 12 VCE VM Fundraiser

The Year 12 VM students made Chicken Schnitzel Rolls for lunch this Thursday. These were crumbed with Stavros' almost world famous, slightly spicy crumbing mix. All profits were donated to the Community Action Team's current fundraiser.

A visit from Flavio! (our 2023 exchange student from Italy)

Flavio Fontana joined St Anne's College through an education exchange program for 2023. This week he dropped in for a visit and brought along his family! It was wonderful to see him again and a great opportunity for Flavio to show his family around.

Reminder: Leave Pass Protocol

Parents/carers are reminded there is a very important process to follow if your student must leave the college at any time throughout school hours. Please ensure you follow these steps:

Parents/carers MUST provide a note to the front office, at the start of the school day, stating the following:

- Student Name

- Date of leave required

- The time the student must present to reception to take their leave

- If they will return to the college the same day, and if so what time they will return

- The reason for the leave being requested

- The parent/carer’s name and signature

Please note, students will only be permitted to be collected by their parent/carer unexpectedly and without a note if it is an emergency.

Uniform reminder

Students are expected to wear full academic uniform on non-PE days.

This includes a knitted jumper and/or blazer for Year 10-12 students and a softshell jacket or knitted jumper for Year 7-9 students.

Students are not permitted to wear long sleeve tops underneath their academic shirts or PE t-shirts in lieu of wearing a jumper or for PE the rugby top.

For modesty, female students should be in the long winter skirt or pants with the long-sleeve academic shirt (blouse), jumper and/or blazer. Students are not permitted to wear the summer dress with layers underneath.

Please ensure you purchase any required items over the term break.

Any questions or concerns please contact Mez Lia, Rohan Lelliott or Sarah Baglin.  We appreciate your understanding and cooperation regarding this.

Reminder: Year 7 Immunisations

Parents/carers are reminded there will be immunisations for Year 7 students on the following date:

  • September 8 - Year 7 Immunisations (HPV and Boostrix), from 9:15am onsite at St Anne's College

Parents/carers will be sent a letter with further information as your student's immunisation date approaches as well as a link to the online form which you are required to complete.
