Class Reports

Foundation

The Foundation students are working hard at building their writing skills. Students are sounding out words and using capital letters and full stops or question marks. The students are very proud of their writing. Tricky words to be learnt have been posted on SeeSaw. It is important to continue to read their decodable books at home to build fluency and comprehension skills. Please remember to sign your student's reading diaries.

We read the picture story book ‘Gorilla’ and learnt some new interesting words – tingling, gently, thrilled. We made a gorilla mask.

In Buddies, we made Father’s Day cards. The big buddies helped the little buddies write a special message in their card.

Ava was given the Principal’s Award last week. We are all very proud of Ava. She is a kind friend, always tries her best and is a good listener.

In maths, the Foundation students have been focusing on measurement. They have been comparing the length, capacity and mass of different objects. They enjoyed guessing the mass of objects by hefting, then checking their predictions using a pan balance.

Year 1

In Literacy,  we celebrated Book Week where student were able to explore a variety of texts with students across the primary years. For the Year 1 storybook, students read Captain Jack and the Pirates, delving into the text and had lots of fun creating their very own treasure chests inspired by the story. We have also explored Migaloo, the White Whale, which sparked some wonderful discussions and responses from the students.

In numeracy, students have finished working on patterns and are now beginning to explore sharing and grouping. This new focus is helping them develop their understanding of early division concepts through hands on activities and problem solving tasks.

In Religious Education, we have been learning about the stories of creation, reflecting on the beauty of the world around us and our responsibility to care for it.

It has been a wonderful fortnight of creativity, curiosity, and learning!

Year 2

Over the past fortnight, Year 2 have been busy readers, writers and problem solvers. In Spelling, students explored how contractions work (e.g. ‘do not’ becomes ‘don’t’) and applied them in their writing. Our spelling focus was words ending in 'le' - students practised reading and spelling words by breaking them into syllables (lit-tle, mid-dle, ap-ple, puz-zle).

During our comprehension lessons students identified the main idea and key details, then wrote summaries of both informative and imaginative texts.

In maths, students learnt a range of mental and written strategies for two-digit addition and subtraction, with a strong focus on regrouping between place-value columns - exchanging 10 ones for 1 ten (and vice versa) and explaining their understanding.

In Religious Education, we began our new unit, ‘Let’s Care for Creation’. We observed the natural environment around us and discussed the positive and negative impacts our choices have on animals and plants.

The Year 2’s biggest highlights this fortnight includes dressing up for Book Week and celebrating our wonderful father figures at St Anne’s Beaut Blokes Brekky. Thank you to all families who participated, the students had a wonderful time!

Year 3/4

The Year 3/4 students have been learning about ecosystems in Inquiry the past few weeks.

Each student chose either a rainforest, coral reef or desert ecosystem to research and then create a poster and diorama to showcase their knowledge and learning.

Each diorama must include living and non-living things and a food chain within it. Students have been amazingly creative constructing these dioramas; their research and hard work has had wonderful results.

Year 6

This term the Year 6s have been learning about immigration and how it can affect people's lives. Some of the Year 6 cohort have entered the Goulburn Valley story book competition. We have written children’s story books explaining why people have to move to different countries because of push and pull factors in a kid friendly manner. These are two examples of books that two of the students from year six have written. The book ‘A Journey Across’ is about a young Italian girl who leaves Greece because of a flour famine. The book ‘30 Nights For 30 Wishes’ is about a young girl who leaves Ireland with her mother to go to Australia and makes lots of wishes along the way.

Specialist

In STEAM, our Year 1 and 2 students have been busy creating stories on ScratchJr with a clear beginning, middle, and end. They have been coding their designed characters to move and even give them voices. The students are thoroughly enjoying the challenge and showing great creativity.

Meanwhile, our Year 3 and  4 students are continuing to develop their skills by building and coding their own animations and games. It’s been wonderful to see their problem-solving skills and imagination shine through their projects.

Reminders:

Parents/carers are reminded there is a very important process to follow if your student must leave the college at any time throughout school hours. Please ensure you follow these steps:

Parents/carers MUST provide a note to the front office, at the start of the school day, stating the following:

- Student Name

- Date of leave required

- The time the student must present to reception to take their leave

- If they will return to the college the same day, and if so what time they will return

- The reason for the leave being requested

- The parent/carer’s name and signature

Please note, students will only be permitted to be collected by their parent/carer unexpectedly and without a note if it is an emergency.

We remind all that the college opens at 8:30am. This enables educators time to prepare for their day ahead. We appreciate your support in helping our educators be successful. Yard duty staff begin at 8:30am to monitor play spaces before the school day begins at 8:55am.
