Year 10 News

With Semester 2 well underway, our Year 10 students are focused on making important decisions about their senior years. From exploring pathway options to attending subject information sessions, students are gaining the knowledge and support they need to make informed choices for 2026.

Job Skills Expo

Recently, all the Year 10 students recently attended the Job Skills Expo at Lardner Park in Warragul, where they got the opportunity to wander around a number of displays and speak to people in a variety of industries. There were also several seminars and panel discussions on offer for students to attend and gain more knowledge and information about possible industries and jobs they might like to pursue. Despite being a cold and wet day, students had a great time and even managed to sample foods and collect merchandise from around the many displays and store holders. Again, this was another important step in their decision-making process for future pathways and career opportunities.

Senior Pathways

Pathway Options for 2026

Year 10 students are currently busily working on their course selections and pathways for next year. We recently had the VCE-VCE and the VCE-VM Leaders from the senior campus come in and talk about options for next year.

Students can choose between VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) and the new VCE VM (Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major), which replaces the previous VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) program. There are some differences between the two programs, and this was explained to students.

Senior Pathways Information Evening

Our recent Senior Pathways Information Evening, held on Wednesday 6th August, provided parents and students with valuable insights into the VCE, VCE VM, VPC, and VET programs, along with guided campus tours of the University Campus.

If you were unable to attend, we encourage you to visit https://kurnai.co/senior-campus for further information.

We strongly encourage families to be involved in the decision-making process around senior pathways and are always happy to support with any questions.

Subject Information Day – All Year 10 Students

Wednesday 13th August

📍 University Campus

Attendance is compulsory for all Year 10 students (unless an approved absence is in place).

Students will visit the University Campus for a tour and participate in subject information sessions designed to help them explore their Year 11 options. This day is a vital part of the preparation process for Course Counselling, giving students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with available subjects, ask questions, and gain a clear understanding of the pathways ahead.

Course Counselling

Wednesday 27th August | 1:30pm – 6:15pm in

📍 Churchill Campus - Language Centre

Course Counselling is an important step in selecting a senior pathway. Students will meet with a staff member to confirm their subject choices and ensure they align with their future goals and interests.

Throughout this term, students have been receiving information and advice about the VCE, VCE VM, VPC, and VET pathways offered. The counselling session is a chance to ask questions and make informed decisions.

A sign-up sheet is available in the Year 10 and Careers areas. Students are strongly encouraged to secure a time that works best for both themselves and their parent/carer to avoid disappointment.

🔔Bookings are now open

Students must book a preferred time slot via the Language Centre by Tuesday 20th August. Please note:

  • Time slots are filling quickly – early booking is essential.
  • If a booking is not made, one will be allocated.
  • Walk-ins cannot be accommodated.

A parent or carer must attend this important course counselling session with their Year 10 student.

This is a valuable opportunity to:

  • Finalise subject selections for 2026
  • Ask questions about the course selection process
  • Meet key University Campus staff
  • Make informed decisions about future pathways
