Welcome back to Term 3! This term is a lot shorter than the past two terms, so students are working extra hard in their classes to get through everything.

Thinking Championships

In weeks 8 and 9 (last two weeks), we will be competing in the thinking championships; this is an opportunity for students to engage in applied learning activities, including: Orienteering, Minecraft, MasterChef, Egg Drop and Self-propelled Vehicles. Mr White puts in a huge effort each year in designing the program which sees students compete as countries in groups against each other. We will also have a weekly medal ceremony and keep a tally; there are prizes for winning countries and opportunities for students to shine with their different talents! Due to the thinking championships students will be finishing up their coursework earlier than usual and so Assessments will likely be starting in week 7 this term.

Courage to Care

To finish up Term 2, we had the privilege of hosting “Courage to Care” a travelling education program which uses the period of the Holocaust as a vehicle to explore racism, prejudice, stereotype and bullying.

The program inspires participants to be Upstanders, not bystanders, when they witness acts of injustice. Hudson was fortunate to hold the Righteous Among the Nations medal, which is the highest honour given to non-Jews who saved Jews during the Holocaust.

Students enjoyed listening to stories of the holocaust and families that helped Jewish people escape Poland during the war. The program also provided some contextual pre learning for the English novel study this term “Once” by Morris Gleitzman.

Term Focus

Last term, we focused as a campus on being prepared for class. The Year 7’s rose to the challenge and did not disappoint, with the highest number of students in the school being prepared for class with their equipment. More than 40 students received free game passes for Wyncity as a reward for their consistent organisation during the random spot checks! This term, we are focusing on workbook pride and encouraging students to maintain their workbooks with ruled margins, dates and neat work. Students have just started fresh books for the new semester for their subjects, and we hope they maintain these books to the highest standard.

Learning Behaviour Updates

Last term we had most of the cohort achieve a GPA over 3.5, with just a few students falling below. Learning Behaviour Updates will be published later this month. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s GPA, please get in touch with their classroom teacher to discuss any concerns. Teachers will be encouraging students to set goals for their GPAs during R&R lessons. This term, there will not be semester reports like Term 2; however, there will be Parent-Teacher Conversations at the end of the term. More information will be made available closer to the time.

Attendance

Hopefully, the worst of the cold and flu season is behind us as we start to see some sunshine again. It is important that students attend school regularly to help them with the learning activities in each lesson. If students miss multiple lessons, they may find it difficult to catch up, particularly with the shorter term. Please remember to contact the office or go onto COMPASS to enter reasons for non-attendance to school and reach out if you want some work to complete at home.

Class Changes

With the new semester, there were several class changes made over the term break. Feedback from staff is overwhelmingly positive about how well students have settled into their new electives, timetables and classes. We have seen a major improvement in classroom cohesion, and the staff are very impressed with the amazing behaviours we are seeing in our year 7 classes. The KPA tally also shows that Year 7 has received more than 1,000 KPA’s so far this term, a record for this time of the year, with all the classes receiving more than 200 KPA’s each so far. Well done, Year 7, for such a positive start to Semester 2!

A special shout out to our highest KPA earners for each class
