AUSLAN

This term in Auslan, students across the school have been exploring a wide range of topics to build their signing vocabulary and deepen their understanding of Deaf culture. From Prep through to Grade 6, students practised greetings and common questions, as well as learning how to express feelings in Auslan. Older students extended these skills by discussing aspects of Deaf culture and communication, helping them to appreciate the importance of Auslan within the Deaf community.
Across the grades, students enjoyed learning new topic-based signs, including things around the house, days of the week, and numbers. They also had fun signing sea animals and weather words, making connections to their classroom learning. Each year level worked on using these signs in simple sentences and conversations, helping to bring their Auslan learning to life.
It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm students have shown for Auslan this term. They are becoming more confident in using their hands, faces and bodies to communicate meaning, and developing both practical language skills and an appreciation of the rich culture of the Deaf community.
