In the Year 1 and 2 Music Program, our Elements of Music focus is Pitch.
Our skill development for this topic is centred on singing. Students are learning how to sing short songs with correct pitch. We practice the solfege (Do, Re, Mi Fa & Sol) through various exercises and apply this learning to songs. The pitch range is 5 notes. (C, D E F & G or Do, Re, Mi Fa & Sol).
We are working on making connections from voice to pitch on instruments when playing the marimba.
Students are also learning ear training in music too whereby being able to identify notes they hear with reference to the solfege.

We are so excited for the upcoming Art Show in Week 8! Every student across the school has selected an artwork to showcase as their submission. This week, the Year 5 and 6 students have been presenting their artworks to the class. Together, we’ve discussed what makes an effective presenter and how to be a respectful audience member.
It’s been inspiring to hear the students speak thoughtfully about their creations — reflecting on their artistic choices and the emotions they hope to evoke in their audience. Speaking confidently in front of others is such an important skill, and the students did an incredible job. Well done, Year 5 and 6!
Through the fundraising efforts of the Junior School Council combined with family donations to the SMPS Library Fund, a large TV has been installed in the library. The TV displays a slideshow of upcoming SMPS events, live house points tally and library information. The last of our library shelving has also been installed so now we have plenty of space for our library books. Feel free to pop into the library on Family Fridays to take a look.
