Principal's Message
Our children are our future...
We encourage you to read this entire newsletter as lots of effort has been put into its production. Here are the most urgent and important details to read in this edition (not just on this first page):
Welcome to Week 5 of an 11 week term. I was so proud of our little troopers on Friday at the School Sports Day. The weather conspired against us and it was one of those days that teased in being fine, and then rainy, and the fine. It made our decision to go or stay really challenging. Once we were there at Murphy Reserve, then we honoured the commitment to give it our best.
I want to thank the staff on deck who were tremendous in supporting the students. I saw encouraging faces as students tried their best and crossed finishing lines - regardless of the outcome. I am proud of the group. A big shout out to Mr Ryder, our passionate PE teacher, who was the main driver of the event.
Well done and thanks to the parents who chose to spend their day at the event. I hope you got to see how wonderful all of our students are - they are beautiful spirits.
A big reminder that Tuesday is a public holiday with no school and no OSHClub running - you will need to make your own childcare arrangements for the day. We wish all families a happy day. Many families choose to make it an extra long weekend by taking the Monday off. I can't be seen to sanction that as it is a school day - however, as a father, I understand the logic. Best of luck with whatever plans you have for the weekend.
I received some lovely greetings and gifts at the front door on Friday; World Teachers Day. How lovely of families and students to honour staff who work diligently doing their best for their sons and daughters on a daily basis. I want to apologise for any child or parent who came through the door with the ideal of thanking me personally. I was on a mission on Friday to get children into the gym to get onto the sports buses and felt really bad later that I did not honour you with a personalised greeting and eye contact. Please forgive me, as I was focussed and busy on ensuring child safety and organisation at that time.
Please take note of the Art Show details below. We want as many of you as possible to attend on the night. Pop it into your diary right now. See the details below.
Enjoy your new week. Make the most of it. You have about 4,000 weeks on the planet (if you are lucky and live till 80). Enjoy the one that is coming up.
Message from Miss Phoebe (our Visual Arts Teacher):
We are very excited to share that we will be having an Art Show this year to celebrate the Visual Arts program at SMPS!
On Tuesday the 25th of November, we will have an after school Art Show to showcase all the fantastic work the students have put into Art this year. We would love it if you could all attend!
The Art Show will also be a fundraiser to raise money to be reinvested into the Art program and future Art Shows. The students have put so much love and care into their artworks and with an Art Show like this they will feel like professional artists! Please show kindness to the students work and respect the time and effort put into each one and donate accordingly!
We will make sure you are heartily entertained with a variety of musical performances, as well as a wonderful sausage sizzle and sweet treats!
Are You an Artist? We need Artwork Donations from Parents
This year, we are also accepting artwork donations from YOU! If you are a professional artist or just have a passion for art, I know the students would love to see your artworks!
Please contact me at phoebe.katos@smps.vic.edu.au to discuss your donation or simply drop your artwork off to the office if you have an artwork to donate. These artworks will be available for purchase by any members of the SMPS community.
This is a CARD ONLY event where you can purchase your child’s one-of-a-kind artwork, and buy some sausages to enjoy!
I absolutely cannot wait for this special day to celebrate the amazing artists of SMPS!
Thank you,
Miss Phoebe
