LOTE (Mandarin)

Ms Wenxi Jiang

Lower Grades (Foundation- Year 2)

Over the past two weeks, students have been exploring the theme of animals in Mandarin. Our learners were introduced to some basic animal words through a traditional Chinese idiom story and song, and they showed their learning through writing and drawing activities.

Upper Grades (Year 3-Year 6)

For our older grades, the focus has been on more practical cultural experiences. Students enjoyed practicing their chopstick skills and folding origami dumplings! We have also been learning the essential Mandarin words for “eat” (吃 chī) and “drink” (喝 hē). Students are now beginning to use these words in simple sentences to talk about what they eat and drink.

Take Home Advice

  • Asking them to teach you how to say 吃 (chī – eat) and 喝 (hē – drink).
  • Encouraging them to sing the “Two Tigers” (两只老虎) song and show you their drawings.
  • Practicing chopstick skills together during dinner for fun.

A little practice and sharing at home helps students build confidence and excitement in learning Mandarin!
