Year 5

Maths

In Maths, students are finishing the term learning about measurement, capacity and mass. They started off the topic learning about the tallest buildings in the world and compared their measurements. Students will get to participate in some hands on maths activities to finish off the term.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have finished our novel study on Dirrarn, and students typed their factual recounts about the life of Jandamarra. They demonstrated a clear understanding of the Aboriginal warrior and the cultural challenges he faced throughout his life.

Topic- IMAX

We had a blast at IMAX learning lots of cool facts about our earth, life on earth and natural disasters that can shape earth.

Facts:

  • Did you know that earth was created by tiny particles that formed together to create Earth
  • Without volcanos and the gasses they release into the atmosphere life on earth would not exist.
  • Tectonic plates act like lids and cover the earths internal heat and slowly release the heat through volcanoes, hot spirngs and ocean ridges.

Fernhill

Today the Year 5 students visited Fernhill and enjoyed playing snakes and ladders with the residents. They shared stories from the past and lots of laughter together. Maintaining these connections with our elderly community is so important, as it helps bring joy and companionship as they grow older.

Year 6

Maths

Year 6 students have been learning about Cartesian planes and coordinates, exploring how to plot points and read positions using the x and y axes. They have practised locating objects on a grid, drawing shapes by connecting coordinates, and describing movements across the plane.

They used this knowledge and played battleships with their dads on Friday morning for fathers day.

Literacy

In Literacy, Year 6 students have been engaging with their knowledge rich curriculum on space travel, exploring fascinating facts about astronauts, rockets, and life beyond Earth. They have been learning how to organise their ideas into clear sections, use technical vocabulary, and include key details to inform their readers. Through writing information reports, students are developing their research skills, improving their ability to structure non-fiction texts.

They also used background knowledge from IMAX to enhance their information reports.

TTRS

A friendly reminder for students to practise their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division for 5–10 minutes each day after school and during the holidays.

On Friday, during our pupil-free day, teachers picked up their paintbrushes and craft hats to begin creating the props for our big production coming up in just two weeks!

Fathers Day

As teachers, we see every day the powerful impact fathers have on their children’s lives. A father’s support, guidance, and encouragement help shape not only a child’s confidence but also their love of learning and sense of belonging. Fathers play an irreplaceable role in nurturing resilience, building strong values, and creating lasting memories that our young people carry with them throughout their lives.

Happy Fathers Day to all our wonderful Sacred Heart Dads!

We wish Ms. Newey all the best as she celebrates her engagement in Peru!

Amazing achievements by our year 5 and 6 basketball teams!
