Buildings and Grounds

Buildings and Grounds Update: Proposals Presented to School Council

At the recent School Council meeting, the Building and Grounds Committee put forward three exciting proposals aimed at enhancing outdoor spaces and supporting student wellbeing based on community feedback.

We are pleased to share the outcomes with our school community:

Gaga Ball Pit: Approved

School Council has approved funding toward the installation of a Gaga Ball Pit! This project has been specifically requested by our Grade 5/6 students.

This fast-paced and inclusive game is a favourite among students and will offer a fantastic opportunity for active play during break times. The proposed location for the Gaga pit is Tree Island, which offers a safe, shaded, and central area that is underused but perfect for this kind of play.

✅Bike Shelters: Approved

The addition of secure bike shelters has also been approved. These will provide a safer, weather-protected space for students and staff who ride to school, promoting sustainable and healthy transport options.

While we are on the topic of bike storage we have shared your concerns around access and security of the new bike cage and are pleased to let you know a pin pad lock will replace the key lock with more information to come when this is implemented.

🚫Sensory Sound Garden – Not Approved (yet)

The Sensory Sound Garden proposal was met with enthusiasm by many members of the  School Council, with strong support for its potential to create a calming, creative outdoor space for students. However the proposal was not approved at this time, as some members expressed concerns. While these concerns were not based on specific evidence, they were taken into consideration during the discussion. We have organised a trial with Wellbeing Instruments and students will be able to try out the sensory instruments themselves in the coming weeks.  We are hopeful that with student feedback and further clarification this proposal can be approved at our next meeting.

We remain committed to exploring inclusive and innovative projects and will continue to refine ideas based on your feedback. Thank you for your ongoing support of the work we do to improve our school grounds for everyone.
